Does Bene Diction Blogs On stay or go?
I don’t know.

Things are a bit brighter - I’ve been promised a spam free blogosphere.
ar arr arrrr. Not even in my dreams - I delete spam in my sleep.
On Word Press. One by one by one.
One can hope…

It’s beginning to sound as if the technical issues are something others know how to solve.
The money and the burnout - I don’t know.
At the best of times I have a love-hate relationship with money, I’ve never cared much for it, was never taught how to handle it well, and I haven’t seen an armoured car follow a hearse. It is something that you pay bills and expenses with, give away what you don’t need and spend a bit of mad money on something enjoyable that keeps you healthy.
I’ve been concerned about the economic health of connexions and Spero News.
They are run by people smart enough to stay up with the growth they are experiencing.
When the reassurances set in and their bottom lines are a reality I can grasp, I’ll be more able to think clearly about this space.

It’s difficult being burned out. A space I have been joyful in seems like a foreign land, and I don’t know yet if re-adaptation is possible. The alter-ego editor in my head needs a chill pill.

Meantime the history of this blog is boggling.
Technically it’s a bit like the south, it’s had a lot of hurricane forces thrown at it.
Yet along come people who pick it up, dust it off, rebuild and tweak and coax it back into existence. Technical people could do their wizardry, a few blogging buddies could guest blog for a bit…

There’s a bit of time left.
The first deadline is mid-November, the other one the end of the year.
Thanks. A lot of people have been in touch. Africa, Asia, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Asia-Pacific, the UK, the US and Canada.
You know who you are, this blog has always had a big front porch.
Thanks for reminding me.
One day at a time…

    I’m still praying for you.
I get down this time of year pretty regularly.
I’d send you $$ if I knew where to send them! But prayers don’t need a postal code.
Those of us who are real people need to stake our claims to our corner of the blogosphere. We need to homestead, and fight against the spammers and the pornsters. Sometimes just showing up is the most important thing.
GK CHesterton once said “A thing worth doing is worth doing badly”.

I’m quite okay with others calling what has been happening lately serindipitous or coincidence.
They may call things what they please.
I know there are prayers, I know they are being heard.

    Thanks Alica.

A post from Bene - you just made my day. ;)

Good grief — just go AWOL for a couple of weeks and get your head clear of it. That’s what I do, and the three people who read me don’t mind at all!

Prairie Fusion, developed and run by Canadian Leighton Tebay is supposedly spam free and he can set up a test blog. Cre8d-design can have a look, and decide whether it would be a realistic learning curve and practical platform for BDBO.

I can’t fart around with technical stuff anymore, I’m ready to throw the cyber duct tape through the screen. The religious spam is making me bonkers. It’s evil!!!

I cannot give up this design, it is one of the true treasures in my life, a gifted artist/technican did this and I’d rather stay down than lose it. LT says the design is transferable and would even let Cre8d-design in to do her magic and touch it up to bring the look up to 2006 speed.
    We’ll see.

There are cool things happening in the Canadian blogosphere. Smart, fun, innovative and wise bloggers in this land taking unique approaches.

And there are some neat blog plans coming down the pipe in the UK.

And our Australian friends have it happening.
Asia - wow. There is so much we can be doing to help them.

I really like what Alicia said. We real people need to stake our claims.

Glad I made your day, you’ve been extrodinarily patient in some of of mine lately, and you make me laugh. What great medicine.

It was a couple of quotes at Ian’s Messy Desk that helped get the words unstuck and posted today.
    He’s a treasure.
    Bless your blog loving hearts.:^)

Mike…what are we going to do with you?
No one goes AWOL better than you.
    It’s a Mike tradition.
Just makes us appreciate you more when you do show up. Thats quite a talent, you slacker you:^)

    *gasp*

New post! Happy happy joy joy! Living proof that prayer works! :D
Big smile on my face and tears down my cheeks. We’re here with you all the way, BD!

By the by, long-overdue Superblessed Christian Blog Awards up by this weekend. Much-needed kudos in the offing.

Happy happy joy joy! What a great and glorious day!

I’ve been with PrairieFusion for about 13 months and I haven’t seen one bit of comment spam.

In fact, I read about 7 other blogs hosted by PrairieFusion and I don’t recall ever seeing any comment spam on any of those blogs either.

The platform is very easy to learn and you have complete design freedom.

(I assure you that LT hasn’t paid me to say this! PrairieFusion just provides great service!)

  9. 9 Robert McClelland

The best solution to the spam problem is to close the comments for posts that are more than a week or two old since these are the ones they target.

And cheer up. The 2005 Canadian Blog Awards are almost here. Oops, does that count as spam?

  10. 10 Bene Diction

There is a code that goes into SQL, but I never got the hang of it, it would close them off by month.
So, I’d close off by hand. arrrggghhh!
We’re talking hundreds, this platform is old.

Naw, your plug does not count as spam, they’d only try to pull that at E-group.:^)

This might be a thought you might want to mull over - I don’t know if any US award programs that cover as many levels as yours have tried this.
Faith blogs aren’t new to Canada, but are probably a small category though. It would give people an opportunity to see different faiths, Muslim, Hindu, Skih, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist and how they blog. (instead of looking up beliefnet) I know you could wind up with endless categories, as your annual project grows.

Glad to hear you are taking on the Canadian awards again, good for you, it has to be a lot of work. It was a lot of fun for the rest of us.
    Blog on!

Hey, Bene. I run WordPress and use the SpamKarma plugin. It deletes easily 99% of all spam comments without any input on my part. I still get maybe five or so a week that make it through and most of them end up in the waiting for approval bin.

If you’re running WordPress, you may want to give SpamKarma a try.

I’d hate to see you give up blogging altogether. I enjoy your writing. Well - at least MOST of the time! :-)

  12. 12 Richard Hall

    “stay or go?”

    S’obvious.

    Stay.

  13. 13 Bene Diction

When you are burned out, nothing is obvious except the fatigue.
I find it really hard to hear what people are saying, and it takes time to allow the relational aspect of blogging to get into my thick head.

It’s amazing when it does, which is why I love this meduim, this isn’t my first burn out come to think of it - spam really does make me crazy. It’s like living on a flood plain during rainy season. All I want is a boat and dry land.
I’m a writer, not a tech. A spoiled writer at that. When something breaks in broadcasting, engineers fix it.
    The net is different.

  14. 14 Bene D

    Thanks Gary!
I don’t expect we can agree, we come from different cultures and life experience. I like that we can disagree amicably.:^)
I can’t authorize a plug in, but yeah, you are correct, thats the route. The guy that owns it is really ill right now, and all I can do is keep it going until he’s able to communicate and I can pass the nod on to his tech people.

  15. 15 feithy

Even when you’re blogging about whether or not to blog, it’s a pleasure reading you.

  16. 16 Bene Diction

All this drama over a little blog.:^)
    It’s something else, eh?
If this doesn’t prove blogs aren’t just content, nothing will.

  17. 17 Deb

How great to read your words. I’m still praying…

  18. 18 Rich

Bene, great to see you back. I’m so sorry to hear about your dilemna. And I can actually relate. I’m actually going through a very dark time right now. And I’ve had too many of those in recent years.

Listen, ditto on the front porch thing. I for one feel that the blogosphere would be a colder place without your blog in it. But if you need to leave, I will understand…hope you stay though. :^)

As to money……BOY do I agree!! What a trap. No wonder Jesus painted it in such cautious light.

Peace be with you dear friend.

  19. 19 alicia

SAD is what gets to me this time of year
I’ve put up my annual gripe about it post
spammers are agents of the ENEMY - we need a simple exorcism.

  20. 20 MMM

    Aaaaand HE LIVES!

Glad to see you back, Bene. You’ve given great diction over the time I’ve read you and I’m very glad you’re not leaving just yet.

  21. 21 Arthur

    Don’t go. Please don’t go!

  22. 22 Dan

A HUGE smile came over me! I saw Ganns’ post declaring you were back.

    I sure hope so.

  23. 23 djchuang

so glad you’re back! hope you find some other way (some other way besides blogging silence) to prevent burn out
