There are a few minutes left in the English language leadership debate from Montreal.

I notice odd things. I don’t know who does Jack Layton’s make up, but he looks like he has make up on. And his body language is a hoot, when he talks, he grasps.

Gille Duceppe holds his own, but he wasn’t quite up to form tonight. I noticed he mixed up plurals, but I see him as a strong voice in provincial representation. National unity, ethics, values, provincial relationships, the charter were some of the topics.

Paul Martin. Mr. Dithers. In the long shots he just looked tired. He took the brunt tonight, Harper is the debater, and stays focused. Martin’s attempt to paint Harper as scary, fell flat. Harper managed to get more personal shots in, so there were a few ‘drive by smears.’

The debate was a bit more interesting this time, more sections were covered. But I have a headache because if I hear ‘let me just say this…’ one more time, arrrgghhh!

Although the big battle is between Martin and Harper, there were moments when Martin and Duceppe went at it. Layton said third choice so many times, I started thinking subway third rails. I found his following of his script so repetitive, I started zoning out on him. There were moments when Harper came across as pragmatic which I found a bit surprising given his past performances.

It was good to hear agriculture and students as part of the debate. I’m hearing promises, but I’m not being directed to policy so I can sort it out for myself.

I’m an undecided voter, and I can’t call this one. I think I’ll watch the french language debate tomorrow night.
