It was a cold beautiful day this weekend when I looked up and rather lazily watched a plane fly low overhead. My first thought was the passengers would have a terrific view, my second thought was; why is that plane allowed off the normal flight path?

If you are the Prime Minister of Canada, I guess you can fly anywhere you want to. The leaders have come and gone, we are into the last leg of a campaign where the media will breathlessly report endless poll numbers, the final nasty jabs will be made. The advance polls have been busy, the rest of us that plan to vote will do so next week.

Glyn Berry, who was serving in the diplomatic core in Afghanistan was killed this weekend just outside Kandahar. Three Canadian soldiers were wounded. 2 Afghanis were also killed in the suicide attack. There were three suicide bombers in Kandahar this weekend.

The PM can fly pretty much where ever he wants, and I can vote without fear. I’ve made my decision and I’m tuning out the noise.  I think back to the Afghanistan elections in October. 10.5 million people were registered to vote. In a country of 28 million that had never seen an election before it is no small thing. Afghanistan remains a dangerous country as it slides toward becoming a narco-state.
