A new to me blog, felix hominum. Good stuff. Joe Walker is a chaplain at the University of Alberta.
From his post God Bless Canada - Rev. Harper.
Perhaps Harper could rework his tag line:
Published 2 years, 8 months agoShort form: – for local speeches, in house meetings, and the beer tent at the Calgary Stampede:
“God bless us, every one” (with apologies to Charles Dickens).
Long Form: for use with Rex Murphy on Cross-Country Check Up, and other occasions of national significance, Speeches from the Throne, etc:
“May the object or entity referred to in the preamble to the Charter as being the God under whose supremacy common recognition of humanity is made possible and so guarantees the remainder of the rights in 2.a ff of the Constitution Act, due to the self limiting nature of an acknowledgement of any form of authority higher than that of the modern nation-state, bless Canada.”

I still like leaders saying God bless (their respecting country). For it is there particular realm that their leadership resides not other places.
Bene - thanks for the link.
dh - I agree that we all should pray for things in our particular realm and responsibility, although we should also, I suppose, offer prayer for all and sundry. I tend to ask God’s blessing more for members of my own biological family than for others, which is perhaps my failure to include more people in a Christian definition of family.
blessings,
