Word Press 2.0 has an awesome spam filter called Askimet.
I get a lot of spam and the filter is doing it’s job well. However, I’ve run into a minor problem. If someone commenting puts in more than one link the comment winds up in the moderating cue. Depending on the amount of spam that hits BDBO on any given day, I can’t see the end of a list of say -103 pieces arriving in a six hour period to ascertain if there are legitimate comments. Given my battles with spam it’s not a bad glitch to have. So if I’ve accidentally deleted you, I apologize.
The filter will usually only moderate your comment if you add more than one link or use words that would blister paint. I’ve noticed the past few days spammers are trying to find their way around the ‘too many links’ wall by changing their text. That’s what word filters are for. Persistent bunch, as technology continues to improve let’s hope they figure out targeting blog comments sections isn’t worth the electricity.
I’ve also found using a gmail account for the blog email actually gets rid of spam. (unlike Hotmail) If I mark it as spam, it goes away and stays away. Who’da thunk it!

Hi BD,
You can change the setting for links in comments by going to Options > Discussion and look for:
“Hold a comment in the queue if it contains more than ___ links”
So I see:^)
BDBO is set for two links, thats fine for now. Looks like I’m going to have to start adding specific words, and specific words in URL’s two pieces without links got through today. Considering how many were in cue, I can’t complain.
Having the filter options I have control over on one page is useful.
You shouldn’t have to add words in unless a lot of comments are slipping through Akismet, which is being updated constantly to fight spam
