Kinsella got angry at some bloggers a few years ago and made threats. Scott , Penny, others. E-Group post by All Things Canadian October 2004. (Who is Warren Kinsella and why is he threatening bloggers?) More recently (Jan./06) Mr. Kinsella bullied this blogger here.

I write a lot about freedom of speech. Part of that freedom is the right to fight bogus libel suits filed to stifle debate. I wrote about this particular abuse here.             

Now it is time to put up or shut up. Mark needs our help. As any blogger may find himself or herself at the wrong end of Mr. K’s propensity for legal action, it is critical that we reach into our PayPal pockets and give what we can.

When Warren Kinsella made threats to bloggers about 15 months ago, Jay Currie wrote this:

I think the Kinsella kerfuffle will turn out to be very important within the blogging community. It brought us together in important ways. But I would be astonished if it was picked up in the Mainstream Media. Coyne may write a bit,Wells might drop a paragraph; but that will be about it.

Critical mass has not yet been achieved; but we are tickling the dragon’s tail.

So far, Neale News has picked up this lawsuit, other blogs are watching because this is what Kinsella does. He threatens. He is well known in the online political community as a bully. It’s difficult to tell what are genuine issues for him versus his outrage. Most bloggers don’t have Toronto law firms to back them up.
This time he has moved past threat -this time the legal papers have been delivered and Kinsella is asking for 6 hundred thousand dollars.  Mr. Kinsella will be seeing Mr. Bourrie in court.

I have no doubt main stream media will be picking this up. It will be news well before the end of the week. 

There is a long trail of bullying and threats the media can follow online. This issue affects every Canadian blogger and whether Mr. Kinsella wins or loses the legal battle, he damaged his reputation with others online a long time ago. 
No one online that has dealt with Mr. Kinsella is surprised by this, it was merely a question of when.
I wish Mr. Bourrie well, and hope he gets top notch legal people stepping forward to help. He’ll need them.
