Earthquake shakes the Ottawa area

Ottawa and its surrounding areas were rocked by an earthquake shortly after 8:30 p.m  Friday evening.

The magnitude 4.5 quake is “the strongest we have had in Ottawa for quite some time,” said John Adams, a seismologist with the Geological Society of Canada. The epicentre of the quake was seven kilometres north of Thurso, Que., about 40 kilometres east of downtown Ottawa. The rumblings were felt as far west as Arnprior and as far east as Montreal.

According to Mr. Adams, this is only the beginning of a few days of shaking in the area.

“For an earthquake of this size, we would expect more aftershocks over the next few days large enough to be felt (rated at) between 2.5 and 3.5,” said Mr. Adams.  Ottawa Citizen

That’s the size quake that Angelenos roll over and go back to sleep.

    Hilarious isnt’ it?
Mind you, while Ottawa quakes may make us sound like wimps, I doubt most Angelenos or BC’ers would want to handle the blizzards in the capital.:^)
