I’m getting a new kind of spam. The filter on Word Press 2.0 is really good, and it’s easy for the blogger to use.

This stuff came in last night, there was about 31 pieces and there is no way they came in by bot. Some of it was just plain malicious - not code, not words, just goobleygook.

Things are set up so if two URL’s are used in a comment it goes into the moderating cue so I can take a look, most spam just drops right into the filter and I can mass delete. It’s also easy to add specific words like viagra so anything that comes in by bot drops into the filter.

This stuff didn’t make sense, some was the usual drug garbage with spoofed URL’s; that took a few minutes to delete, but the rest was like something a 10 year old would put in to kill time.

Using gmail for this blog has turned out to be a good idea. Once something is marked as spam, it’s gone. Given the religious mail I get from the US - things like sermon material, prophecies and Jesus junk, I only have to deal with it once, and it alerts me when an odd little comment flood like last night starts happening.
