David Emerson isn’t going away.

Or to put it more succinctly, what David Emerson has done isn’t going away.

Good for the voters of Vancouver-Kingsway. It doesn’t matter if Emerson singlehandedly saves Canada, what he did may be legal, and the Ethics commissioner can’t do much, but voters can until the government gets the message we need the law tightened. I actually believe Emerson didn’t think voters would be upset. They have proven him wrong, and will continue to do so. There are so many things in government that fly under the radar. Our votes have to matter, and this is an instance were people can demand they do.

Being concerned or angry your vote gets spit at, doesn’t  doesn’t mean threatening his kids, or defacing his constituency office. A walk is a win-win. Exercise and message. People that have never piped up, never protested are learning they’ve found a reason to, and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

There is going to be a Walk for Democracy in Vancouver April 2nd.
This walk is non-partisan. As has been the uproar over Emerson’s cross-over.

Several blogs are taking part. Here is the information for anyone in Vancouver that cares about their vote and would like to take part.

Alex Boivin is a voter. I don’t frequent forums, I’ve never quite figured out their appeal and the sign in stuff, but Mr. Boivin has posted eloquently here  at a Vancouver Small Business Meetup forum and he is worth a read.

Pete Quily who runs a site for adult ADD has also continued to speak up and speak out. His URL for his Walk for Democracy post has 220 characters in it, so you know he’s serious about what he has to say.

I admire the voters of Vancouver-Kingsway for keeping up the pressure. If this had been the MP in my riding; as much as I respect him, I’d be all over it like lint on a wool jacket.

Boivin:

“I came to the conclusion that this is a very serious issue that affects everyone in our family and all other Canadians, regardless of their political affiliation. We, as Canadian voters need to take a stand, to send a message, loud & clear, to our politicians that we are not a use once, then throw away commodity. You, our elected representatives are accountable to us, the people who elected you not to the corporate entities that help finance your campaign, not to your party leader who decides your position in government and the perks that you receive, but to us, the average, on-the-street Canadian voter! “
