Messy Christian ponders the Christian response to a huge blog controversy in Malaysia that led to a surprised apology by a key Muslim blogger, MenJ.

Malaysia has a strong and eclectic blogging community. One of the countries most famous bloggers is Jeff Ooi, of Screenshots.

Looking at the latest controversy MC says:

So, how should we react to such a post? Malaysia is made up of many races and religions. And some of you may say, “Hey, the same for New York!” or something like that. But unlike places in America, we are not exactly a melting pot – we do not lose our cultural identity or language in Malaysia. Many of us easily speak up to four languages. Malaysia has news broadcasts and newspapers in Chinese, Malay, English and Tamil. So the short story is this: Racial relations is a sensitive and no-joking matter.

As a Malaysian, I belive posts like these can be very inflammatory and dangerous, and if the government has shut down a newspaper for printing the Prophet Muhammad caricature, what more a “satirical” article about eradicating Christians?

Yet, as a Christian, I’m taught by Jesus himself (in the biblelah, not that He came down and spoke to me) that we are to love our enemies, and to turn our other cheek. We are to love – first, and foremost.
