Deborah Gyapong has pictures and the story of Solberg and his aide being swarmed in Ottawa May 31st. Solberg was the guest speaker at a Citizens for Public Justice meeting.

The people involved in the altracation are apparently from a Montreal group called Solidarity Across Borders. They released a statment about the shoving and disruption here.  Gyapong:

The thing is, this rent-a-mob behaved only a few degrees away from being brown shirt fascists themselves. Their rage was theatrical not real when they started with their shouted slogans. Obviously though things grew ugly out on the sidewalk.

Why no arrests? Is it okay to prevent a Minister from walking where he wants to go, from getting into his car? Is it okay to throw his chief of staff to the sidewalk?
To scream close enough to his ear to harm his eardrum?

I heard on the news today that Solberg is willing to come back and give his speech again. Got to hand it to the guy. He’s got guts. I hope he brings a lot of those guys and gals with the little wires in their ears next time. It’s a shame that it would have to come to that, but that’s the kind of breakdown in civility that Canada is witnessing.
