Child Abuse blog carnival

A group of fairly new bloggers are getting together to put up a blog carnival (group of blog posts) on child abuse, and I’m happy to give them a plug.

You can find the details at Survivors Can Thrive! Submissions must be made by June 19th. Good for them. Blog on!:^)

The Guardian has a piece about Micheal and Debi Pearl of No Greater Joy Ministries.  I wrote about them here and here.

Some homeschoolers in the UK were understandably concerned earlier this year when the Pearls mentioned they’d be in the UK plugging their books and materials.  No Greater Joy Ministries (based in Tennessee) took their UK/German tour information off their site, and I wonder if the efforts of UK bloggers and homeschoolers have been successful in keeping them physically out of the respective countries.

I believe people such as the Pearls who openly advocate child abuse and do so under the guise of Christianity, need to be in the open, need to be seen by as many people and as many authorities as possible.
They have such a twisted view of themselves and the views they sell, they see being arrested as a plus, proof positive that Christians are being persecuted.  Take a look at this post by one of the Pearl’s adult daughters and the subsequent black and white, either/or comments and justification and rationalization in the name of God. I wonder if I’d defend my parents if I stood to inherit the some of the 1.5 million dollars they bring in yearly.

Posts such as this one from the UK in March can help shed light into dark places, and perhaps can help people make better parenting choices than what the Pearls pretend to offer.

  1. Thanks for the plug for the blog Carnival Against Child Abuse. I appreciate it, but I wasn’t shamelessly asking for a plug–I really wanted you to participate. I especially liked your post on CHILD ABUSE AND THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT and thought it would be an appropriate inclusion. The deadline is actually tomorrow (6/15) for our 6/19 debut, so let me know as soon as you can! Details are at my blog http://survivorscanthrive.blogspot.com or at http://www.blogcarnival.com (just search using keywords “child abuse”). Thanks for everything!

I don’t think it was a shameless plug at all – good for you!

By all means take the posts you’d like, double click on the ‘headline’ and the URL comes up.

Have been away and missed news of this carnival. Will be following with interest when I get a mo.

Some UK dates of the promotional tour for the Old Schoolhouse magazine (which contains advertising for the Pearls) were cancelled for certain, but I am not sure whether some of the other dates did go ahead. Will try to find out when we return from travels.

in your clip about the Pearls you did not mention the they are more an advocate of love on your children the spanking.

  5. Bene Diction says:

Hi Kristen – you are correct I did not.

Any man who goes on about the magic of a piece of pcv pipe in his hand as a parent raised to a child has nothing to do with love.

It has to do with that parent’s pathology.
People can read for themselves, we can only hope enough do.
