New Jersey is going to be the place for a blog convention this summer for US progressive faith bloggers the weekend of July 14-16th.
I’m going to ask the same question I asked the GodBlogCon organizers at Biola, only backwards - are Republicans welcome?:^)
Some well known bloggers are going to be participating, The Velveteen Rabbi (Rachel Barenblat) Mainstream Baptist, (Bruce Prescott) Talk2Action, (Bruce Wilson) Chuck Currie, Street Prophets (Dan Schultz)
Faith and politics have the capacity to profoundly divide, or to profoundly connect. The first annual Progressive Faith Blog Con is a chance for progressive bloggers of faith to meet one another, talk with one another, and learn from one another.
Our progressive politics are rooted in our theologies, and our theological stances inform our politics; why not celebrate them together? During this weekend gathering we’ll break bread together, talk about the subjects that fire our passions, and put faces with the names on our blogrolls.During the first annual Progressive Faith Blog Con we’ll talk about the intersection of religion and politics; the roots and branches of our faith traditions; ecumenical and interfaith blogging engagement; and the challenges and blesssings of pluralism. We’ll have breakout sessions around faith-tradition, and around meditation, liturgy, and scripture. We’ll talk about justice and poverty, about progressive faith activism, and about the religious right. The conference will be led by and for our community, and it will be shaped by each of us who attends. Join us for a weekend of learning, connection, and conversation!
The cost is 45.00 at the door (25.00 if you register online with Paypal) The 1st day sessions are:
My Religious Blogosphere, Blogging Scripture, Blogging Meditation, Blogging Ritual
Day 2 breakout sessions will tackle politics:
International and Justice issues, Poverty and Hunger and Responding to the Religious right.
(okay, this is where I ask again - given most people in the US define as religious right as Constitution Party or Republican - are Republicans welcome?:^)
There will also be a Tech panel and a Faith and Politics panel
I don’t know if many of the organizers or attendee bloggers of the evangelical GodBlogCon (this years Biola GodBlogCon theme is unity-in-diversity) could tolerate the ecumenical worship services planned for the convention weekend: Jewish, Buddhist, Muslim and Christian, but of course some could and would, it would be interesting if a blogger was able to attend both conferences and report, eh?
I wish The Progressive Faith Blog Convention well.

Republicans are certainly welcome in my book! I’ve known interesting, thoughtful folks of many political and liturgical stripes, and I certainly don’t expect everyone at the PFBC to agree with me on everything (or anything). *g*
I’m really curious to see how the various services go. I’m co-leading the Jewish service on Friday evening; the idea is to hold a Jewish service which is authentically Jewish but is also welcoming to the multifaith crowd. I have similar hopes for the Buddhist and Christian services (and the Muslim one, assuming we can find the right worship-leader, which I have every hope that we will.) I imagine this will be too far-out for some folks, but hopefully it will also be interesting and thought-provoking and maybe even inspirational!
Anyway, thanks for the kind words, & for giving our conference a mention.
Reminds me a bit of the BloggerCon faith panel you attended and covered so well - only a whole weekend!
Thanks for clarifying that Republican thing up so courteously and promptly.;^)
Have a great time.
