Grassroots projects are the focus of the Stephen Lewis Foundation — providing resources to small, front-line groups that make tremendously effective use of comparatively small amounts of money.  On rare occasions, the Foundation funds larger undertakings where we are sure the funds are being disbursed at the community level.

Areas of greatest need

• providing care to women who are ill and struggling to survive so that their lives can be free from pain, humiliation and indignity
• helping the orphans they leave behind
• supporting the unrecognized heroes of Africa, the grandmothers, who bury their own children and care for their orphan grandchildren and
• assisting the remarkable efforts of groups of People Living With HIV/AIDS.

For the past 3 weeks, Waving or Drowning has been busy getting bloggers to spread the word that a 10 dollar donation will go to where it is supposed to, through the Stephen Lewis Foundation. So far $2,939 dollars have been raised.
