(with apologies to the Brady bunch*;^) Must be Monday. Reporters are back at their desks sifting through the weekends information.

Media, who are a lot more savvy about blogs than we sometimes give them credit for, noticed that Independent Halton MP Garth Turner has called a media conference for tomorrow.

Media for the most part is playing it by the book and not speculating too much on what this is about, so one turns to blogs to see what they have to say.

Small dead animals (A blogging Torie) has made up a Turner post, and let loose the party faithful who feel an MP must bow under the whip.

Stephen Taylor who took the Garth challenge  has been busy upgrading the Blogging Tories. The challenge to find breaches of caucus confidentiality fell a bit flat.

I don’t know about you, but the second I hit publish on this blog, every typo, every grammatical mistake gets found by a search bot. I usually forget to spell check, read it over later and fix my mistakes. Am I being dishonest? No, just human, there is no intent to deceive or harm. I have nothing to lose, and Turner took the time to explain to Taylor why the post(s) in question were reworded.

So, a bit of speculation has started on blogs about what the independent MP who was booted out of the Ontario caucus on October 18th, (and  the same day by the national caucus) will have to say tomorrow.

Turner knows media. He understands the power of blogs also. And that makes some people very nervous.

The Globe and Mail is calling this press conference announcement (tomorrow) cryptic.

One of his aides said Monday it was “killing” Mr. Turner to have to keep it a secret.

He did say, however, that he had a few things to say after receiving three letters Friday from senior Conservative bosses.

“They affect me, but they also affect you,” Mr. Turner wrote on his blog Sunday. After his ejection from the Tory caucus, Mr. Turner alleged that he had been given the boot because of his stance on certain issues, including the environment. The Tories cited confidentiality concerns with Mr. Turner’s daily blog for his expulsion.

Hint: A post today at Garth Turner’s blog mentions the speculation about the Green Party.

There were 10 questions posed by Turner when he was expelled from the Conservative Caucus. On Friday November 10th, 2006 his office received 3 responses from unnamed senior Conservative Party officials.
A letter in response has been couriered to Prime Minister Stephen Harper from Garth Turner today.

So we can speculate.  Answers may be forthcoming tomorrow. These questions were posed by the Halton Conservative electoral district association, a motion was passed asking the national council of the Conservative Party to respond in a week. That was October 27th. Ironic. They can kick an MP out in less than a day, but take about 2 weeks to explain. Government math I guess.

1. Have I been suspended or expelled from caucus?
2. Is it definite or indefinite?
3. What was the reason?
4. Will I be formally notified?
5. What evidence will the board get to justify my ouster?
6. Are there conditions for reentry into caucus?
7. Am I still the nominated Conservative candidate?
8. Is my membership still valid?
9. If I am stripped of my nomination can I seek it again?
10. Is my suspension or expulsion a directive of the national party?

My conservative friends wanted to find how to find things on blogs - thanks for the post.

Any deviation from the stated “party norm” makes some people apopolyptic.

    “Let loose the party faithful”.

An interesting turn of phrase. It assumes I have control over who reads the blog and who comments. It also assumes that the 7,000 or so visitors a day are made up of uniformly pro-Conservative readers. That’s not the case, as you might have noticed if you’d actually read the comments, instead of just misrepresenting them.

Garth Turner, on the other hand, doesn’t seem nearly as open to dissent. Perhaps you’d see fewer negative opinions of him at SDA and elsewhere if Turner weren’t so quick to delete critical comments at his own blog.

For someone who so earnestly professes that he represents the will of his constituants, it seems not all of them get equal time.

    Hi Kate:

I read every one before I posted, which I guess makes me one of your 7 thousand.:^)

    I liked this one…

“Can’t say I exactly understand. Isn’t the purpose of a blog to write about oneself, or one’s opinions?”

I hope linking to you gives people an opportunity for people to read for themselves.
    Blog on!
