Spero News has an article up on Rick Warren’s recent four day stop in Syria, the reaction by conservative blog Slice of Laodicia, World Net Daily, Mark Tooley of The Institute of Religion and Democracy in Front Page Magazine and some bloggers. The article also has Warren’s response.
6.5 to 10 percent of Syria’s 18.6 million population is identified Christian, composed of Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Pentecostals.Â
While I think Rick Warren may be a bit naive, I am inclined to think the same about the groups out to vilify him in this situation. Everyone gets hurt in this US battle of the press releases, and Syrian believers get lost in the squabbling.
Mark Driscoll, Mars Hill
Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill mega church has received acclaim and mostly criticism,  for his recent comments on pastors wives. His remarks were timed for the Haggard scandal, although Driscoll denies this, many of those protesting his tone and attitude have been minister’s wives, women, and a healthy mix of healthy men thrown in.
The Evangelical Right has more, including a protest planned for December 3rd.
Update: Mark Driscoll clarifies (can’t say it’s an apology) his remarks and poor timing. Driscoll speaks to pastors, his orginal post was clumsy, lazy, most of the criticism directed at his original post is realistic, heartfelt and also holds grains of truth.
