Commercial break. But I like many CSI fans, am watching to see why William Petersen is leaving the show. It took me awhile to warm up to his character, Grissom, but I did.
And if he is leaving the series for good, that’s it. I’m moving on. TV Squad -
A simple Google search for “William Petersen leaving CSI” yielded numerous articles and interviews dating back to 2005 where the actor talks about how he’s tired of playing Gil, would like to give theatre and film a shot again, and his desire to be a better husband. He makes it clear in this article that his character will only be around in a limited capacity for the remainder of this season. So it looks like solving the case of the miniature replica killer was Gil’s last hurrah. But let’s be honest here TV fans. We know how this works. My educated guess? Petersen won’t be back at all when CSI returns in Fall ‘07 for its eighth season. Anyone think otherwise?
Update: January 19th TV Guide: Hello Grissom. William Petersen will be back on CSI Las Vegas February, 2007.
After more than 100 episodes, Petersen has admitted he needs a break, which he’s taking so that he can appear in a play in Rhode Island. (He’ll return to CSI in February.) As exec producer Carol Mendelsohn says, “Nobody expected the show to run as long as it has.” And while Petersen’s character is “on sabbatical” from the lab (Grissom will be teaching at Williams College while he sorts out his own job frustrations), a seasoned CSI from Baltimore named Mike Keppler will fill in.

I will stop watching if Grissom is gone. What a disappointment!!!
I’m really disappointed that Petersen is leaving (has left) the show. With all the new cast and characters on my favorite CBS shows I am seriously thinking of switching networks.
I to hate to see Petersen leave. Its NOT CSI if he’s not around. He’s the glue that held that show together.
I think the producers need to do or give whatever he wants to him to keep his character there. Without him its just another who-dunit show. He along with the other regulars were like family and they interacted so well together, it was a top notch show. I watch the reruns on SPIKE everyday.
Now that red headed wonder who stars in CSI Miami could leave tomorrow and that would ONLY help that show. I refuse to watch that show because of him. He has all the charm of bird flu.
BRING GRISS back….please!

David Caruso isn’t much of an actor, I like some of the other cast, so I catch it occasionally.

Yeah with Grissom gone, CSI Las Vegas lost it’s punch.
CSI was the best when it came out. After a while, they started getting too wierd. CSI Miami and CSI New York were more realistic and, therefore, more interesting.
I read something last year that said William Petersen might be leaving CSI this season due to some health problems. The article did not elaborate on the subject. I hoped at the time he would get well soon and NEVER leave the show. As far as I am concerned, there IS no show without him. He is an outstanding actor that should have had far more recognition many years ago. I truly hope that we see a lot more of him soon in CSI, or another program somewhere down the road. He will be truly missed.
In all fairness to David Caruso, on the “other” CSI, I think he is a very capable actor. Have you seen him in “King of New York?” He played a really rotten cop in that film. But at least, he did a really good job of making you hate his guts. For reasons far beyond me, they have written his character to be more interested in striking a “pose,” than showing any real humanity and emotion. Good grief, when his new wife, Marisol (sp?) was shot down in cold blood, he might as well have had a hang-nail. I wanted to see him scream, cry, and curse to high heaven. He just gave the classic squint, and the old hand-on-the-hip. Whoo-Hoo! That must scare the bad guys to bits. The odd way they have him speaking is something the writers have going on. His normal speaking voice in other roles is nothing like the speech patterns he uses on CSI. Just plain weird…
Bring Grissom back…… the show is Gil Grissom….I definitely will stop watching if he doesn’t come back….there’s enough reruns for me to get my fix without watching any new show without him. I certainly hope that someone cares what the audience wants.
Well i havent seen the latest new episodes but i recently saw the one that introduced the new guy (what ever his name is) and i noticed…NO GRISSOM and i was thinking to myself whats up? after 1 episode i figured it was nothing but now im watching a new one and still no grissom so i decided to google it and found this. Although i completly love his character and think William Petersen is just so handsom i have to face reality that he has a life and if he chooses to quit a show for personal reason(better husband?) then i cant be like “OH MY GOD BRING BACK GRISSOM NOW OR ME NO WATCH CSI” but…i will probably eventually stop watching the show lol! so bye bye GilGrissom
hes leaving cuz hes losing his eyesight. and i mean, near 8 years dedication. really cant expect much out of him. I think they will end it perfect. hope so.
csi las vegas is my favourite csi among others but i am very disappointed with the leave of grissom. i can not believe it, without him i do not think i will watch the show he acts so good i in his character. i am really sorry
Geez, is Wm. Petersen really losing his eyesight? Lord, I hope that is just a rumor… That is such a terrible thought. Here’s hoping and praying that he is going to be okay, and not losing his vision.
We are his fans, the people who care a lot about what happens to him. Let us all be praying for him.
i can’t believe what i have just read because his character made the series of CSI more exciting too watch. His character helped us to learn about different insects that helped us have an idea how long the body had been there for.
I hope he comes back becase he made the show worth watching.
I THINK THAT IS A REALY SUCKS THAT GRISSOM LEFT. I SO THOUGHT THAT HIM AND SARAH WHERE GOING TO HOOK UP. But even though he has left I WILL STILL WATCH CSI FOR NICK STOKES.

I just started watching CSI this year. I am watching all the reruns i can on spike and another channel. I really like the shows. Not to crazy about CSI NY, No outstanding personalities. Buy the way can the Redhead on CSI Miami, Can he hold his head up streight?? I like his character tho, And Gill Grisson is the show on CSI Investagations in Vagas. That is the best written show of the 3. But last weeks CSI Miami has me waiting till tonight. Sure hope the downed charcter is staying with us. He is a real part of the program.
Oh the Nut on CSI vagas that has that wierd hair all the time, is getting to sooty. Used to like him but sense he went into the field he has gotten wierd with his attitude and his hair.
Love all the programs. Hope you can get the price of the CDs to where I could afford them. Would love to be able to watch them on TV at my leasure. But alas they are way to expensive for my pocketbook.
Myself, my mum and my sister love CSI and we have all got our favourites. My mum loves Miami, my sister loves New York and I love Las Vegas. I get really involved in the story lines and I think the way it is set up is brilliant. I am heartbroken to find out that Grissom has left the show, he s my fav, he s different and plays the charactor fantastically. I think they need to pay him whatever he wants to stay.I haven’t watched it for long but I am going through the box sets as well as watching on the TV and wil be an avid fan always
I agree with everyone else that without Grissom, CSI Las Vegas will lose a lot of its appeal. Grissom is the glue that holds the show together, his mere presence makes the rest of the cast look better. I just love his highly knowledgeable and moral yet somewhat eccentric personality and the off-the-cuff comments he often makes when someone presents him with a theory he finds implausible or when confronting a suspect. He’s probably the only person I can think of that is fascinating to watch while he’s doing nothing more than standing in a corner thinking about a case, trying to process a thought in his head in a state of full absorption, completely detached from what’s going on around him. Without him, CSI Las Vegas will never be the same again!
CSI Las Vegas is the best CSI by far compared to the others and Grissom has a lot to do with it. His character commands respect and authority like no other and the educational insight (e.g. the origin of a word) he brings in many cases makes CSI Las Vegas not only a fun show to watch but also very rewarding. I just hope he changes his mind and decides to come back. Now about CSI Miami, I’m sorry but I have to disagree with most of the other bloggers in that despite it not being on a par with the Las Vegas equivalent, I still find it pretty darn cool. All you have to do to like CSI Miami is focus on Emily Procter and within seconds you’ll be captivated! She is HOOOOT. She alone makes CSI Miami worth watching and makes up for all the other imperfections of the show.

your csi of March l was awful. Whoever scripted it, must hate Catholics. This story had so place being shown during lent. This show in my estimation is on the skids. When you have to lower the blouses, and show more blood and guts you need help. NCSI use to be interesting, but that also has fallen apart.
Grissom is CSI. Without him…its just not the same. His weird bug collections, and feutal pigs make him the most interesting charater…and definately the best. WILLIAM PETERSON/GIL GRISSOM - PLEASE DONT GO! The show isnt CSI with out you!
Since the fourth or fifth season (I can’t remember exactly), Grissom was making advice of his leaving. He told Warrick once that he was a ghost in highschool, and then he told him that one day he will be gone, and nobody will miss him.
Even I was expecting his leaving, I’m really sad…I hope that he’ll come back one day…CSI without Grissom, is like eating a cake without chocolate…still good, but not THAT good, you know what i mean?
And what about the new guy Keppler? C’mon! They can’t be expecting we like him if he’s replacing Grissom…nobody can’t fill his shoes!
I’m kind of dissapointed here…I love CSI and I’ll always watch it…but come on man! WE WANT GRISSOM BACK!!!
Horatio Caine, come on, he is awesome, less is more.
Lt Caine treats people better than things..remember Officer and a Gentleman.
Now Grissoms character, I love, but he is all scientific data (100%)- even emotionally challenged. However, Horatio is righteously beloving with a science oriented crew to make for caring. Do you all agree both are dedicated actors with matching characters. They’re opposites.
Both have effective styles, subtle heart driven convictions vs factual frankness with detached feelings.
Well, let’s all read in honor of Micheal Peterson growth.

don’t really care for either csi miami or new york but love csi las vegas……… the whole crew is great, only it would really take someone just like GRISSOM to replace him if he decides to leave. His character is really special and adds alot to his team, they’re all really good together. I too realize that he is just like all of us and has a life so all we can do is let him live it the way he wants…
I wasn’t crazy about the man that was taking Grissoms place at the 1st of the season, so I’m sure glad Grissom has come back….. If he is ever replaced it will take someone that is alot like Grissoms character to take his place. But like all of us William Peterson is allowed to live his life like he wants (short of Government intervention haha ) and we need to remember that.
the whole team is great and does the show proud. I thought that the only one that did make things worse was Eckley.
I love Grissom in CSI! He is very believable, as are most of the cast.
Nick stokes was terrific in the season finale called “graveyard” some
thing or other. The whole cast works well together. The only one I
don’t like is Eckley. He could leave & I would cheer. As for the other
CSI shows, I do watch them; but only cause I don’t like anything
else that is on in their time slots. I don’t want to see Grissom leave,
but if he does, I wish him well. Anything else would be wrong, as
he gave me alot of enjoyable shows.

I was first interested in William Peterson as an actor after watching Michael Mann’s ‘Manhunter’ (which happens to be one of my favourite films). I think its just his character is so mysterious and he doesn’t reveal too much about himself personally….but yet so inspirational and intriguing. I love his character and although he is not coming back to CSI, I will look forward to seeing him in future films. I will probably fall away from CSI and I predict that the Vegas show will fade away.
I agree with Wisdumckr that both lead characters in CSI-Vegas and Miami are really good. Different, but good. I, for one, like Horatio Caine’s mannerisms and look forward to watching for them. Grissom on Vegas will be missed and the show will most likely falter. Let’s give it a chance and see what happens.

Wow, I thought that I was the only one who truely was SHOCKED when Gil Grissom left. only to see that Katherine was the first one to kiss up to whats his name . . . . Oh yeah keppler.(reversecrime scene ppfffft whos he fooling) I was really happy when Gil came back (only to find a minature on his desk) and as for mr. sunglasses some one get him a neck brace (horatio caine) he needs to learn not to think with his lower . . . . when it comes to female suspects [expecially latin ones ] I think that the producer of the csi series should take caine,his coroner, eckley, miss I cant button up my shirt, shoot my boyfriend (from new york) and eric put them on a csi kalimazoo show then cancil it
No me ha gustado para nada,que Grissom haya dejado de actuar en CSI,la verdad que sin el,no es lo mismo,y mucho menos con este nuevo actor,que aunque se le paresca,jamas sera lo mismo.Este programa ha tenido al publico muy contento,y no creo que apartandolo a el,continue igual.
Espero que hagan algo al respecto,es mi programa favorito,y se muy bien que por esto que diga,no lo haran volver,pero sinceramente,digo lo que dice el publico en general.Si el actor principal,como hasta ahora ha sido,se tiene que ir,terminen la serie,y ya!!!pero imponer nuevos actores,no cero que sea lo mejor.

You may take the show of the air, Grissom is gone…You worked hard to make us like him and now we do, so don’t change a good thing, the show wont be on at our house if he is gone for good, we will turn to something else even one of those reality shows and i hate them so much it hurts,WAKE UP BRING BACK THE GRIS…………………………………………………………………………………….
