Kim at connexions has posted an excerpt from Martin Luther King’s Love in Action sermon.
King’s steps to non-violence were:
1. Gather Information (on both sides of the conflict)
2. Educate (everyone involved on the information collected)
3. Strengthened your own commitment to reconciliation (pray, meditate, sing, walk)
4. Negotiate for a win-win situation.
5. If negotiations should fail, take appropriate Direction action to bring each other back to the table. This step must use all of the principles of nonviolence.
6. Celebrate reconciliation
In most conflict situations people look for compromise. The difficulty with that is that one party may have to give up more than they need and want to, leaving them often angry, frustrated and bitter. Nonviolent resolution requires that both parties seek a win-win.
