On August 24, 2006 I posted the strange and sad story of Carl and Vicki Peterson of Tulsa Oklahoma. She had been a televangelist and musician in the Word of Faith movement, he had been a prominent psychiatrist.
The post has seen a fair bit of traffic.
Martha ‘Vicki’ Peterson was taken into protective custody by the state Department of Human Services after Dr. Peterson was accused of drugging her with a powerful psychotropic called Seroquel. The case became public when he appealed a conviction.
This case is back in the courts, this time involving money.
The Department of Human Services has asked a judge to remove a former psychiatrist from control of a $2.5 million trust he formed with his wife, an evangelist whom he drugged with psychotropic medication, court records show.
On Dec. 19, DHS filed the request in Tulsa County District Court to remove Carl R. Peterson as trustee of the trust he created with his wife, Martha “Vicki” Peterson, in 1996. Court records show the trust contains more than $2.5 million in bank funds, real estate and other property.
…
In its filing seeking to remove Carl Peterson from control of the couple’s trust, DHS states that the trust “was funded with property acquired by Vicki prior to her marriage to Carl. Carl contributed few, if any, assets.”
The trust provides that if Vicki Peterson became incapacitated, Carl Peterson would be the sole trustee.
“Carl, as trustee, has abused his fiduciary duties by transferring title to trust assets into his individual name,” the DHS filing says. It also says Carl Peterson has not used trust proceeds to pay for his wife’s care since the guardianship case began.
