This is a book that was bound to happen.

The Blogging Church, written by Brian Bailey has just come out.
It appears to be targeted to a professional church audience, for church leadership who may not necessarily use the internet, and who might be more comfortable reading hard copy before they head into the blogosphere.

The book is written for church staff, and is a how-to-blog manual.  The most balanced review on blogs I can find so far comes from Rick Scheibner of Another Storm. I have not seen a media review as yet.

Published by Jossey-Bass, The Blogging Church:

The Blogging Church offers church leaders a field manual for using the social phenomenon of blogs to connect people and build communities in a whole new way. Inside you will find the why, what, and how of blogging in the local church. Filled with illustrative examples and practical advice, the authors answer key questions learned on the frontlines of ministry: Is blogging a tool or a toy? What problems will blogging solve? How does it benefit ministry? How do I build a great blog? and Who am I blogging for?

The book has contributions from five entrepreneurial/techs and several US ministers. Author Brian Bailey blogs at Leave It Behind, and co-author Terry Storch of LifeChurch.tv has set up a blog for the book here.

Interesting comment at Tony Morgan’s blog:

FWIW, I heard Ed at a regional C3 this past fall and he mentioned (for reasons I don’t have time/space to recount) that he put an end to blogging by his staff members. I figured that’s why Terry’s blog disappeared. Could it be back now…?

Hey, thanks for mentioning me. I read this book in a weekend, and I think it should be in the library of anybody who spends any amount of time blogging. There are some definite do’s and don’t’s in here, and Brian spells them out pretty well.

I had wondered why Terry’s blog disappeared. Not sure I’d want to work for a pastor who would “put an end” to the blogging.

The comment is heresay, and I think (Rev?) Storch is the one to address it. I got curious when I couldn’t find much on him and I stumbled on it looking for information.:^)
