Ottawa is a far country to most of us.
What we are able to see on Garth Turners blog is what people who take the time to log on and head over to comment think and feel. It's a teaching tool, a communication avenue, and brings the far country a bit closer.
I wish more MP's had this opportunity.

What I find interesting is not all the discussion at Turner's blog is reactive, cynical and party pontificating.
Voters are busy people, and I think it's postive we have places to debate, vent, opine and discuss online.
Reaction can be pro-active.

An MP's blog as a digital commons.
(not House of - public space)

What MacLeans magazine may have meant as a swipe (The Internet Politican) I see as a compliment and a plus.
I wonder if a few years down the road what Garth Turner has set up and accomplished online will be more of a norm that currently anticipated and presently ridiculed by traditionalists.

Sherm, this may be the 101st time you've mentioned Harper scares you.:^) I see you are progessively clearer on the reasons why, and I commend you for that.

Mr. Wagner - all the best with your campaign.

With the print media spin and the talking heads interviews (particularly the Conservatives) the average Canadian will think this is another 'floor-crossing'.

Technically it isn't. Turner can't accomplish a thing as an independent. He was ousted by the Ontario caucus, Harper was fully aware of developments and did nothing. Turner challenged Harper on national TV to call by-elections in all four ridings knowing full well that the Conservatives would lose three, possibly four.

When is Harper going to tell the truth about Emerson? his stand on Kyoto? Fortier? income trusts? his coziness with Bush and the Republicans?

Harper has betrayed Canadians over and over and over. While Turner may not be perfect either, he is open and forthright in his blog and the comments reflect the average Canadians dislike or approval.

Insiders in Ottawa are leaking that the Harper government isn't one big happy family. His muzzling of his Cabinet ministers and caucus has caused considerable discontent. He doesn't allow discussion or dissent.

For the hundredth time - Harper scares me.
