Another alternative universe – Conservapedia

Conservapedia is a much-needed alternative to Wikipedia, which is increasingly anti-Christian and anti-American. On Wikipedia, many of the dates are provided in the anti-Christian “C.E.” instead of “A.D.”, which Conservapedia uses. Christianity receives no credit for the great advances and discoveries it inspired, such as those of the Renaissance. Read a list of many Examples of Bias in Wikipedia.

Conservapedia is an online resource and meeting place where we favor Christianity and America. Conservapedia has easy-to-use indexes to facilitate review of topics. You will much prefer using Conservapedia compared to Wikipedia if you want concise answers free of “political correctness”.

Contributions that comply with simple commandments are respected (and improved) to the maximum extent possible. Please improve this website as you use it, and please cite your sources. With your help, Conservapedia will continue to be an online encyclopedia you can trust.

I know the world wide web is a big place with all kinds of alternatives, but every once in awhile you stumble on something jaw-dropping. Conservapedia is for home schooled Americans – a unique universe, an aberant altar, a disassociated realm.
Friends tell me not to worry about the religious right – I don’t worry.  I watch.  And this is something to see.

Wikipedia entry: Holocaust -

The Holocaust (from the Greek holókauston from olon “completely” and kauston “burnt”)., also known as Ha-Shoah (Hebrew: השואה), Khurbn (Yiddish: חורבן or Halokaust, האלאקאוסט, is the name applied to describe the attempted genocide of Europe’s Jewish population during World War II, as part of a program of ridding Europe of “undesirables” by the National Socialist regime in Germany led by Adolf Hitler.” (continues  several pages and hundreds of references)

Conservapedia entry Holocaust -

The Holocaust was the massacring of the Jewish race during World War II. The Germans are not to blame for this but the Nazi are. Besides 6 million Jews dying, 3 million Christians were killed also along with many priests and nuns. This is a very touchy subject for the Jews and is not often discussed amongst them.

Wikipedia definition: Conservative – 17 categories

Conservapedia entry: Of or relating to Conservatism.

Pete Seeger, once accused of being a communist, countered “I say I’m more conservative than Goldwater. He just wanted to turn the clock back to when there was no income tax. I want to turn the clock back to when people lived in small villages and took care of each other.”

Many modern conservatives stand for virtues such as small government, fiscal responsibility, and non-intrusiveness in the lives of private citizens. Many conservatives are frankly appalled by the co-opting of the term “conservative” by religious and right-wing extremists who would prefer to see the government enlarged to massive proportions, at the expense of the public debt, to enforce rigid laws of morality which the government has no business interfering in.

This has to be a parody site.

Update: Wired News February 28th, 2007.
Nope.
Not a parody.
It was founded by Andrew Schlafly (son of Phyllis of The Eagle Forum and a lawyer) and  home schooled high schoolers from New Jersey.

Is it Conservapedia or homeschoolers who are the “unique universe?” I’ll buy the former, but the latter is a bit broad of a brush. The homeschooled kids I’ve encountered are generally better adjusted and better educated than their standard-schooled peers. I might not have ventured into the churches that would have some of the more seperatist folks that get you worried, but the “product” of homeschooling seems good.

I wasn’t able to get through to the Conservapedia site to check it out. It doesn’t look like it’d be too much use for me or folks I’d be teaching.

I’d rather let my charges hit Wikipedia and know that articles may well have varieties of spin; when the historicals dates are stated in CE and BCE, you know you’re probably dealing with a secular academic for whom AD and BC is too much of a bow to Christianity for their tastes. You’d then read the article taking into account that there’s likely to be some secular spin to the issues at hand.

I have two blog posts on Conservapedia, both with screen grabs — because it is so danged hard to get the site to load.

    Here’s the first

    http://lizditz.typepad.com/i_speak_of_dreams/2007/02/making_light_ta.html

    Here’s the second

    http://lizditz.typepad.com/i_speak_of_dreams/2007/02/attention_high_.html

In the second, I’m asking readers who may be k-12 teachers to grade the quality of the posts.

    I wasn’t very clear was I?
    I shouldn’t post when I’m sick.:^)

I’ve only known one kid who did a couple of grades at home. She is in university now and doing very well.

As someone who was public-schooled, home schooling is another universe to me, and I understand home school materials are a huge and growing business in the US.

I meant Conservapedia, they posted clearly they are an alternative and are taylored for US home schoolers.

I can’t shake it’s a parody though. Either than or kids are doing a fair bit of the contributing. It’s a facinating read, I spent a fair bit of time there.

Separatist folk don’t worry me, they facinate me, and I lay no claim to understanding on an experiential level.:^)
