Truth really is stranger than fiction. I personally believe this kind of “church” makes our condition worse! Thanks for the post.
The first paragraph is striking to say the least.
I wonder how Prayer Palace attendees responded to this piece?
The Prayer Palace church today is a giant lie and a money pit for the upper tier of the church to make personal wealth.
Give to god by giving directly to others in need
The christian church in general is satans playground
I have great sympathy for congregants. No one enters a church expecting harm, there is a high relationship of trust and hope.
I understand Melinchuk started his ministry from scratch, and was affiliated with a denomination early on. I don’t know why he left and went out on his own.
In this case, trust and charisma sound like they are a violable blend, and churches that teach Prosperity Gospel seem to be specially savvy at separating people from their money and using guilt and fear. Anyone on a spiritual quest can be conned.
Attendees go from feeling special, elite, blessed, to shock, denial, and shame. Faith can be shaken and forsaken. Depression can set in. Congregations become polarized and split, friendships are broken, appropriate reconciliation and restoration often isn’t addressed. It’s rare there is justice.
The psychological pain people can experience may never be addressed, nor is there often opportunity for members to talk this through because of spoken or unspoken rules. Spiritualizing is common. Boundaries can be really shattered.
I’m sorry people aren’t aware they are permitted financial transparency, and safety by leadership.
ALL THIS ATTENTION ON THE PRAYER PALACE IS RIDICULOUS! TRUE CHRISTIANS SHOULD BE ON THIER KNEES PRAYING FOR THIS CHURCH INSTEAD OF ON THE PHONE AND WEB GOSSIPING ABOUT THEM. PEOPLE NEED TO LEARN TO SHUT THEIR MOUTHS AND SPEAK TO GOD INSTEAD OF OTHERS. THE TRUTH HERE IS THAT IF THEY ARE INDEED STEALING FROM THE CONGREGATION THEN GOD WILL JUDGE THEM AND WE AS CHRISTIANS NEED TO KEEP THEM IN PRAYER. GOD OS OUR JUDGE NOT EACH OTHER. THATS THE PROBLEM THESE DAYS PEOPLE ARE TOO BUSY CHATTING RATHER THEN PRAYING. PASTOR PAUL AND HIS FAMILY ARE THE HARDEST WORKING PASTORS/FAMILY I HAVE SEEN. THEY ARE THERE AFTER EVERY SERVICE AND RHOUGH THE WEEK HELPING CLEAN THAT CHURCH AND ARE SO INVOLVED IN IT BUT NO YOU DON’T HEAR ABOUT IT DO YOU. I THINK ITS NOW TIME THAT WE STOP JUDGING THEM AND RUNNING OUR MOUTHS AND JUST GET ON OUR KNEES AND PRAY. GOD WILL REVEAL THE TRUTH IF THERE IS ANY! HE IS A JUST GOD. ALL OF THIS IS SICKENING AS IT IS SO RACIST LIKE OH THE BLACK PEOPLE THIS AND THAT LISTEN COLOUR DON’T MATTER TO GOD THERE ARE POOR PEOPLE EVERYONE WHITE.BLACK CHINEESE EVERYTHING SO STOP MAKING IT A RACE ISSUE. I USE TO ATTEND THAT CHURCH AND TRUST ME MAJORITY OF THAT CONGREGATION IS FAR FROM POOR. THE MORAL OF ALL THIS DRAMA IS SHUT YOUR MOUTHS AND GET ON YOUR KNEES!!!!
Ashley: I let your comment through because what you think matters.
On blogs it is considered shouting to type in capital letters and very rude.
You are welcome to comment, please show some self-respect and other respect and turn off the cap lock.
In response to Ashley, we need to remember that we all live an in open community where we all have different beliefs and moral values. We aren’t all christians, but we all have a way of expressing ourselves. Yes you may say that one should pray to God about the issues being brought forward. But we aren’t all Christians. Some of us are Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu… and the list goes on. If the church is innocent of wrong doing it will come to light. But in the mean time, we all have the freedom of expression. As far as I see it, The Star hasn’t done anything wrong. The money collected should be going into the Jane and Finch community or other low income or needy communities. There are people out there that are living poor, why not help? I’snt that what churches do?
Interesting theme have mentioned. With pleasure I shall support.
And in general, good blog
