I was aware Dr. Dobson's people attempted to clarify when he made that comment to Gilgoff about Thompson.

Here is why I'm skeptical and why I asked you.

1) You and Bridges are known as FRC employees. At big sites, like the Huffington post ( the hotlinking episode). Like it or not you became the online FRC tech dynamic duo.
Perception of your personal autonomy will not be forefront in the Republican race blogs whether this is your personal choice or not. The hotlinking incident involved your choice and your job.
Don't blame me and thousands of others for noticing.

2) You are correct. Blogs for Fred only have your personal names along with Jackson and Claybourn. If Thompson enters the field, your effort will be one of 11 aggregrators/blogs for a Republican candidate.

3) This is politics, you work for a political organization, what you hope isn't worth spit. If Dobson and the rest of his organizations throw their support behind Thompson, your personal choice isn't going to wind up looking like one.
Don't blame me for noticing that.
If they don't, then yeah, I'll be more inclined to believe this was your choice, until then I remain skepical.

4) You cross post FRC posts at The Evangelical Outpost. Your choice. It may be mere expedience on your part, but those boundaries have been blurred.
Again, don't blame your readers for noticing.

5) Okay, you are now on record ahead of a possible/probable decision by your higher ups. And you are again on record saying your blog/aggregator can't/won't/shouldn't be traced to the FRC because you can't/don't blog from work.
Makes sense, people get fired for less.

Appearance and perception does matter.
FRC bosses know that.
You acknowledged your bosses know you have the Fred aggregator/blog - damned if you do and damned if you don't.

You are known for your hard work and your loyalty to your friends. Whether or not anyone tests you, you'll not be found wanting.

You know as well as I do, if Dobson’s organizations are making a move to anoint Mr. Thompson, people will wonder if your loyalty to the FRC exceeded personal choice.

I'm not sure if you heard, but there was a big uproar over Dobson saying he wasn't sure if Thompson was a Christian. That's why I find it rather amusing that you think my new project is some sort of Dobson-inspired plot. If you didn't know I worked for FRC you wouldn't be able to tell from reading Blogs for Fred. While I'm free to pursue it in my offtime, I had to assure them that it would not be connected to them in any way.

I do hope that Dobson, et al., will eventually come around and support Thompson just as I do. But I'm not sure how that is a test of my loyalty when I came out in favor of him long before they ever made their choice on who to support.

Whether or not I'm satisfied is irrelevant, it's your election.

You know as well as I do, if Dobson's organizations are making a move to anoint Mr. Thompson, people will wonder if your loyalty to the FRC exceeded personal choice.

And they won't be asking to get you on record as soon or as nicely as I did.

As for the Canadian view - I don't disagree with you. It does say things about Canada.
We can't discuss it because what you know about your neighbour wouldn't fill a sentence.

C'mon, Mark, you've been reading BD's blog long enough to know that everything wrong with America is the fault of the Religious Right. BD won't be satisfied until James Dobson steps down from the office of the Presidency and Tony Perkins is removed as head of the Department of Defense.

And for what it's worth, the Canadian view of the U.S. says more about Canada than it does about America.

I haven't thought it through, those numbers were surprising.

Point taken. I don't separate Bush from foreign policy. Didn't look closely at some of the countries, I was surprised at allies.

In 2002 the US had world sympathy and empathy.

I think like a Canuck:^) softwood lumber; "you're either with us or with the terrorists"; Colin Powell (a man I respect) at the UN; border hassles, Guantanamo, Arar...

I can appreciate Greenwald sees this drop world wide as a squandering of the moral highground.

I don't think it's the "Religious right" but Bush foreign policy on Iraq and possibly global warming, that ticks folks overseas off, unless you're equating the two.

Bush was just as theologically conservative in 2002 as today; what's changed is that Iraq proved to be a problematic choice.
