If you don’t check your sources and you write a column, expect fact checking from forums and bloggers.

Janet Folger of Faith2Action is also columnist for WorldNetDaily. There are two large errors in a recent column - both are whoppers but this second is seriously sloppy. Dispatches from the Culture Wars:

The problem is worse than they are willing to admit, and it’s not just in Ft. Lauderdale. Dr. E. Fields, in his book “Is Homosexual Activity Normal?”, reveals “41 percent of homosexuals say they have had sex with strangers in public restrooms.”

Using a white supremacist to bolster your claims (incorrect as they are) is not how to gain credibility. Ed Brayton wrote the Faith2Action website and received this response from Janet Folger’s/Faith2Action communication director.

The reference to Dr. E. Fields was found on an internet search for statistics on public sex. Such a reference can be found on a number of websites, including this FreeRepublic article. We honestly had no idea that this E. Fields was the same man who holds such racist views. A Google or Yahoo search on “Dr. E. Fields” shows nothing.

However, if we are going to use such a standard to reject any research by a person who holds racist views, we had better all stop quoting men such as Charles Darwin and Karl Marx. Both held extremely racist views, as any internet search with their names and the word “racist” will show. A number of sites also suggest that Dr. Alfred Kinsey was a racist, despising both African-Americans and Jews.

The rest here.  I don’t know what search engine Faith2Action uses, but E. Fields, Edward Fields, Dr. E. Fields and Dr. Edward Fields brings up more than enough in Google.
Oh man. When you are that wrong, admit you are wrong, apologize, fix the mistake -don’t dig yourself a deeper hole.
Faith2Action boasts about teaching people to win ‘the culture war’.
Oh.
Well, this isn’t how to go about it.

(It is difficult to Faith2Action seriously, they are more than willing to spin a Canadian human rights tribunal hearing into a ‘trial’ to suit their purpose) so hey, why not justify quoting one of the world’s better known neo-Nazi extremists; all for God and country of course.

Update: Janet Folger amended her World Net Daily column and posted an explanation
