I’ll wait while you cringe.

GodTube.com’s success is proof positive that Jesus 2.0 is the wave of the future. Our entire culture is becoming internet focused. Today, people use the internet to search for practically everything they need in life — Why not their faith?

Okay? Yeah me too.
Moving on.
From Christianity Today’s Liveblog. Pretty good post. GodTube (the US Christian alternative to YouTube) is a hot commodity. They’ve grown so fast they are launching the next phases of their operation - VideoPolice and Godcaster.

CT makes a crystal clear point.
GodTube is a media business.
They package God like Disney packages, well, Disney.

I don’t suppose GodTube’s CEO wants to hear the web 2.0 bubble is about ready to burst.
Nah. Didn’t think so.

I don’t know about you but I think the internet is a great place to learn just about anything, but just because I can doesn’t mean I should or will.
The internet isn’t going to ’solve’ declining church attendance, that’s some marketing guy’s schick and if you believe him, you and the dollars in your wallet deserve to be separated.
This company has a business plan, money and marketing people that will promise it’s consumers and advertisers whatever they need or want - but then church as business is a key model in North American protestantism these days.
GodTube brags about a growth rate of 973%.
No surprise there.

What is this Christian consumer mentality?
If we don’t pay for something it has no worth?
If we aren’t growing, we’re failing?
Christians need to find alternatives to real life?

Church Marketing Sucks counterpoint

I’ve lost count of the ‘Christian’ social networks springing up.

I got a marketing email from another Christian social network start up last week.
I wrote them because they are so brand new there wasn’t much online yet to figure out who they were and what they wanted.
Marketing guy Rick not only got back to me promptly, he emailed his boss, who also wrote me.
Both Rick and Titus were open, friendly, earnest, sincere and devout and offered me a link back if I wrote back.

I’ll give them a link for free, no strings.
Funny how blogs work that way, eh? ;^)

Titus and Rick are operating out of Florida, providing web services, social networking, ministry services. They are passionate about their faith and their ideas.

They call their effort Jesus & Co. and they can be found at Christianity 2.0.
