Michael Ignatieff has a blog. He posts regularly. No comment section though, given it is © 2007. Authorized by the Official Agent for Michael Ignatieff and part of his riding site, I don’t see why he can’t have a comment section and one of his people moderate it.

I know he is professorial, but it’s doable to be able to have citizens comment.
That small flaw aside, good for him. He joins Elizabeth May (Leader of the Green Party) as a top federal official blogging. May does’t have comments either and keeps her posts very short. It’s on the Green Party site.

Garth Turner; brief Mr. Ignatieff on on the benefits of comments. Any politician can throw something up. It just comes across as being in love with your own words, and it’s top down writing.  Few can handle feedback with ease, but given the popularity of social networking, allowing comments is a very smart move in the current political climate. Iggy must have some seasoned patient and saavy computer communicators on his staff that can step in and moderate the rabble.

I took a look at Iggy’s blog. A bit stiff and a bit press-releasey at times, but worth bookmarking; however, it’s fairly open for a guy who has an eye on being PM in the not too distant future.

I still miss Monte Solberg’s blog. With the exception of Turner, I’ve never seen a politician blog with the elan that Solberg did.

However, as immigration chief, he had to shelve the blog in order not to say something that would bring the PM’s spin machine down on him, which would have been on about every other post.

Hey! Glad you are enjoying MI’s blog. We are working very hard on having a comment section up and running soon. It’s just more difficult than it appears to gather the required resources to moderate a blog effectively… But we are getting there.

Will let you know when it’s up,

    Marc Gendron
