Innocent man Tasered several times

Only once?

Hello.  50 thousand volts. Once. Twice. Eight times.
50 thousand volts.  8X50 = 400,000 volts.
Going through a human being.

Without warning, one officer fired a Taser into the back of his head which made him drop to his knees, he said. A second shock caused him to fall on his face, breaking a front tooth. A further six shocks made him wet himself and left him lying in the road in pain while the officers and sniffer dogs searched the car and found nothing.

A Taser is just a sophisticated way to harm people, and it is obviously in the hands of people who have blindly allowed themselves to be convinced this is a useful enforcement tool. They are fools. We are fools for letting them use these weapons.

Police and the public need to get to get a grip and stop allowing lying to ourselves.  When this weapon doesn’t kill it can do permanent damage to our central nervous system. That’s the point after all. Torturers love this weapon. It isn’t messy for the torturer.
50. Thousand. Volts. Once. Twice. Eight times. Daniel Sylvester is alive to talk about it.

I don’t believe in suing, in Mr. Sylvester’s case, I hope he is able to take this police force, these officers and Taser International through every legal maneuver available in to him the UK.  How can he possibly prove his accusations?
Shock law enforcement into some honest evaluation.
Avoid Canada’s disgrace.
I don’t know what else is available to him.
Or us.
Police are going to keep buying these weapons.
And continue to justify using them.
Death by electric chair (practised in the US only) is typically 2 thousand volts (AC) consistent for 15 seconds flooded through the body, then lower levels of current until the person is dead.  The core temperature of a person can go up to 59C.

Yet we consider it perfectly civilized to permit police to jolt innocent people with 50 thousand volts multiple times.

A spokesman for the Met said: “Just after midnight, officers on an intelligence-led operation stopped a car in Bounces Road, N9. The driver got out of the vehicle and was subsequently Tasered. Our information is the Taser was deployed once.”

Someone is doing some serious lying here. If I was with a gaggle of fellow officers and we fired our weapons more than once just because we could, I don’t know that our behavior would wind up in the paperwork to our superiors.

I hope Mr. Sylvester’s courage in telling his experience wakes the rest of us up. Notice he was tasered in October. It is only being talked about publicly now.

Tasers should be deployed “where officers are facing violence or threats of violence of such severity that they would need to use force to protect the public, themselves and/or the subject(s) of their action”. Tasers have been used 47 times in London this year, with black people accounting for almost two-thirds of those stunned.

Other: On Monday, Winnipeg police killed 42 year old Roy Bell who yelled at police to kill him when they arrived. (suicide by cop) Bell was carrying a gun and a baseball bat. He was shot and killed when the Taser police used didn’t work. Bell had been in the military and did not have a police record.

Its not the voltage – its the current that kills you.
That is one of the things taught in the safety part of all amateur radio classes.
Yes a taser is a weapon, and as such (at least in Ontario) a use of force report must be filed each and every time it is used. The use of force report also covers “pepper spray” and conventional weapons. The taser model used in Ontario records the number of times used and cumulative discharge time for the records. Perhaps the officer training or model used in the UK is different from that used here.

In the case of the man in Winnipeg, his clothing was thick enough to insulate him from the taser. In this case, if the taser had been effective he would have lost muscular control long enough for the officers on scene to remove his gun and restrain him.

    Suicide by cop. They obliged.

As for the man in the UK, the voltage has done it’s damage.

You point is well taken, current kills.
