Richard Bott of looking back…looking forward made Macleans magazine.

Doing what he does so well. Mediating. Making hard decisions. Explaining.
Pastoring the pastor.  Richard is very good at giving people enough rope to hang themselves. And he is the first to embrace and comfort them when they do.
So this had to be a decidedly fractious bunch.

A United Church in BC fired (disbanded) it’s congregation and Richard was in the thick of it.
Queens Avenue United Church has a set date to close and will have a good-bye service.
A congregation has to be really invested in the dysfunction of tearing itself up when transitionally trained ministers can’t help them.

Good for the presbytery. That’s a tough decision and I applaud them.

One Response to “United Church ‘fires’ feuding congregation”

It is amazing how even Christians are human. Even we have feuds and fights. However, I find it amazing that this congregation did not follow Christ’s words of forgiveness. “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy times seven.” If only we Christians would learn to more freely forgive.
