ar arr arrr!
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams was asked about a Christmas card on BBC radio. The myth stuff; you know, wise men, shepherds, manger, the star, snow on the ground sorts of things, and he did what thousands of ministers and priest do. Separated myths from history.
Basically it’s a seasonal air time filler sort of interview. Well, that’s about all would have been if The Telegraph hadn’t misinterpreted and made their own news.
Headline: Archbishop says nativity ‘a legend’
Can’t let the truth get in the way.
Or slow down the typical rivalry between print and broadcast.
This poor chap is royally offended that, well, that, that, that, er, the truth might break out at of all times - Christmas!
The good thing about the internet is that when there is a media mistake, there are plenty of people to fact check your ass. (Asses probably weren’t in the stable. Nor oxen) Seriously. I counted 79 news outlets that ran with this. This is the stuff myth is made of.;^)
Dr. Williams used the word legend once in the interview, within orthodox parameters.
legend: (noun) An unverified story handed down from earlier times, especially one popularly believed to be historical
[Middle English, from Old French legende, from Medieval Latin (lēctiō) legenda, (lesson) to be read, from Latin, feminine gerundive of legere to read;]
By way of Dave Walker at The Cartoon Blog
He’s got the full story with a nice cartoon to go with it.
If you’d like to hear what the Archbishop of Canterbury had to say for himself the link will be on the BBC site for a few days. (under: Listen again)
Lambeth Palace has the excerpt up.

You are exactly right. However, Rowan Williams invites immediate reaction because of his previous statements contrary to God’s Word. His shameless advocation of homosexuality within the leadership of the worldwide Anglican Community is theologically and scientifically Incorret. In essence he has called God a liar - Jesus said we “must be born again” - in denying that transformation is possible through Christ Jesus.
