One of the better sites online to get a perspective on US Baptists is Ethics Daily.
The site is an offshoot of The Baptist Center for Ethics.
Often those of us outside the US think all Baptists are Southern Baptists, which is decidedly untrue. There are about 50 branches of Baptists in the US.
While media tends to say Southern Baptists number 16 million in the US, the membership is closer to 6 million. SBC Leadership has aligned itself with The Republican Party and have a tendency to make sure they make the news. I question whether the average SBC member pays much attention to what their leadership is going on about - the news site for the SBC is The Baptist Press. and the companion executive committee publication SBC Life.
It’s interesting to read a story in the SBC inhouse organ site, then head over to Ethics Daily, which is better written, with balanced research and a clear moral perspective. I’ve had a couple of opportunities to contact Ethics Daily writers, they are prompt and professional. Contact with the SBC got me spam.
As Ethics Daily continues to grow, one of my hopes for them is a newer web design with a better working RSS feed. They have become an important and balanced voice for religion watchers.
