The Q Contininuum is the name Quaker blogs have given themselves.
Via: A Silly Poor Gospel is a powerful Pastoral letter from Quakers in Kenya to the leaders of the country.
“We actively oppose all that leads to violence among people and nations, …. Refusal to fight with weapons is not surrender. We are not passive when threatened by the greedy, the cruel, the tyrant, and the unjust. We will struggle to remove the causes of impasse and confrontation by every means of non-violent resistance available. We must start with our own Hearts and Minds. Together, let us reject the clamor of fear and listen to the whisperings of hope.
Our Principle is, and our practices have always been: ”to follow after righteousness and the knowledge of God, seeking the Good and welfare of humanity and doing that which tends to the peace of all”
The Friends (Quaker) letter does not just implore leaders for peace, it lays out very pragmatic and practical steps that can be taken to restore calm, trust and hope for Kenyans.
And Kenyan Quakers are not just writing to leaders. Here is an email from a Quaker who has faced violence. David Niyonzima went to Kenya to train church leaders in trauma counselling for refugees and none violent, none retaliatory response to the violence Kenyans have fled.
Published 10 months, 2 weeks agoI spoke from my experience in Burundi and shared with them the techniques of defusing and debriefing which were very helpful to them according to their comments. Two of the participants were professorial counselors with private practices.
During the group discussion where we applied the teaching to ourselves I realized most of my audience were traumatized because each of them shared their fears, nightmares and many other emotions as they experienced or witnessed violence in some suburbs of Nairobi.
