My uncle helped found an orphanage in Kenya on an island in Lake Victoria. There are more than 300 kids, many of which were orphaned by the HIV epidemic. Some of the kids are HIV positive. It is without a doubt the most visceral representation I know of what it means to share God’s love. And tonight it might be burned down. With the violent unrest destroying a country that many would say AIDS has already destroyed, the orphanage is in danger. There have been threats. Guards have been posted. The food supply delivered to the island is dwindling.
You can read the rest at The Prodigal Jon. His item was posted yesterday. The threats are real, the danger is real, they’ve been told the orphanage will be burned.
As I write this, I don’t know if the building is gone, I don’t know if the children have eaten, if the adults caring for them are alive.
If you leave a comment at The Prodigal Jon, it will be forwarded to Kenya, to the adults trying to keep these kids safe, and will be read to the kids.
What will you say?
Gethsemane Garden Christian Center also runs a school.

I have left my comment on The Prodigal John, and have posted a link and a little bit on my blog about this. As someone who has worked with several orphanages on short term mission trips, I have a soft spot in my heart for these children. I pray for God’s peace and protection at this time.
