Prime Minister Stephen Harper has warned Liberal Leader Stephane Dion that the Conservative government is prepared to go to the electorate as early as next week to seek a mandate to extend the military mission in Afghanistan, CTV News has learned.
The government could fall if the Liberals do not support it, since the NDP and Bloc Quebecois are against Canada’s extension of the NATO mission. The Liberal party is deeply divided over the issue, with many members siding with former Liberal deputy prime minister John Manley and others supporting Dion, who wants all combat operations to end after 2009.

I think the PMO is working off a script. Something like:
“If you don’t pass my (budget, bill) without (argument, discussion, examination) that means you are (unpatriotic, unco-operative, troublesome, too stupid to call me on my passive aggressive leadership style) and I will (pick up my hockey net and go home, call you names, call an election) therby forcing you to (lose the election, make a deal with devil, lose the election AND make a deal with the devil, or cry). (So there, HA-HA, gotcha!, don’t bother me while I’m pouting.)
And I almost like Stephen Harper. Imagine how fully medicated people feel.
Dion is going to propose amendments.
