Five months ago when the church Haggard founded; (New Life) voted on accepting “I’m not a failure Brady Boyd,” Haggard resurfaced begging for money.
The legal agreement signed by both parties when Haggard resigned in 2006 is no longer in place according to KUSA news.
New Life statement:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ted Haggard’s leadership of New Life Church for many years was extraordinary and the depth of spiritual maturity that is found today in the church is in large part attributed to his leadership as the founding senior pastor.
In January 2007, Ted Haggard voluntarily agreed to enter a process of spiritual restoration. He has selected Phoenix First Assembly and Pastor Tommy Barnett as his local church fellowship and is maintaining an accountability relationship there. He has recently requested to end his official relationship with the New Life Church Restoration Team and this has been accepted by them.
New Life Church recognizes the process of restoring Ted Haggard is incomplete and maintains its original stance that he should not return to vocational ministry. However, we wish him and his family only success in the future.
Because spiritual restoration is a necessarily confidential process, the church does not anticipate that it, or its Overseers or Restorers, will make further comment about it.

I understand the need to monitor those who lead. How long is this spiritual restoration suppose to take place? What needs to be done to be considered restored?
This was a sad story that unfolded before the public eye. I pray that he is able to move forward and live for God. Even though we fall into sin does not mean that it restricts us for life.
I am not saying that New Life Church was wrong for not allowing Ted to continue on leading. I wish that they all could have come to an understanding that would have kept contact from being broken and that they all could have worked together to grow.
I enjoyed my first visit to your blog and intend to visit a little more often!
I believe the agreement was Mr. Haggard stay out of (a?) pulpit for five years.
New Life Church paid his salary til the end of 2007.
Rather hard to enforce I would think, given the church he founded is independent.
What is the last standing overseer going to do to him that hasn’t already been done?
One of the things we need to remember is that his four ‘overseers’ and Haggard told the public that “after 3 weeks of intense counselling” (Haggard) “is completely heterosexual.”
Saying restoration is deemed ‘incomplete’ leaves a lot of wiggle room.
The damage was done from the get go.
Meth use, adultery, power, greed, lying, addiction, duplicity; pr calculated to downplay the mess his life was in.
Claiming three weeks of counselling and overseeing would heal a life out of control beggars belief.
And just a few months ago, another very public demonstration of complete lack of judgement.
And exposure of serious flaws in the ‘overseeing.’
The statement is telling.
New Life leadership couldn’t distance themselves fast enough.
Given Mr. Haggards need for power and the spotlight , it is no surprise he would make the move to get out of this agreement once the money dried up.
I think you are asking very good questions, questions the spiritual/religious structure he embraces can’t answer.
