First I’m linking to Heritage and Justice Canada because I want someone in The Privy Council Office checking BDBO. I would like them to know evangelicals and faith bloggers in Canada are aware of this amendment in C-10 (an economic housekeeping bill) and how it is being slipped through.
“Canadian film or video production certificate” means a certificate issued in respect of a production by the Minister of Canadian Heritage certifying that the production is a Canadian film or video production in respect of which that Minister is satisfied that…(b) public financial support of the production would not be contrary to public policy.

You are going to see a lot of Christian bashing.
Get past it.
Third, I suspect some have been hurt by fundamentalists at some stage in your life, and that’s why I’m asking you to look through his grandstanding and think about a post that will stand with the Film and TV industry in Canada.
I am of mixed mind about funding and tax credits, but what I am not confused about is any closed door hand picked committee of Heritage/Justice making funding decisions about morality of content in Canada. Not on McVety’s terms. No way.
I’ve said what I needed to say here. I respect the reality every single one of you have something important to say and can say it better than I. This is not about arguing, too late to go there. Here is what I ask.
a) Think this through.
b) Read up.
c) Post.
d) Write your Senator.
If this went to a Charter challenge I don’t think it would stand, however, I don’t see why we need to stand by and let lawyers make the money.
We vote. We have a voice, as does McVety. He used his.
Now let’s use ours.
I know most of you are very busy and activism is not your first choice. With a political savvy organizer such as Charles McVety we are the co-belligerents, he is one of ours and I believe on this he has gone too far.

Well, it stands to reason. The guy running our country thinks he’s George Bush, so somebody has to think they’re James Dobson.
I would like to know if Focus on the Family Ottawa was part of this er, lobbying effort.
Since Charles McVety has decided to be our James Dobson, I guess we can play by his rules this time around.

Readers should also check out Denis McGrath’s coverage on his blog. He has worked as a television writer and producer in Canada for decades, so he knows whereof he speaks when he talks about the chilling effect this would have on ALL Canadian film & TV productions - not just the naughty ones.
Nobody is going to invest in these productions if they could suddenly and arbitrarily lose their tax credit status at the whim of some public morals squad AFTER the money is spent and production is well under way.

JJ pointed out at unrepentent hippie how disengenous Charles McVety’s remarks to Mike Duffy were. The Converative Party (his values comments grrrr) did not get the popular vote.
If this has actually gone back to committee that is hopeful.
Oh, crap. Now I’ve got to dig through all that California State Christian University nonsense again. But. The man needs to be stopped. He’s a menace to thinking people - Christian or otherwise.

Mr. McVety is certainly getting the attention he desired, including the light of day shed on his various organization’s tax exempt status.
This is a mere handful.
Given what we know about how he got his College status pushed through the Ontario Legislature, his rule bending is no surprise, the more people know, the better prepared we will want to see he and his friends stay in the open.
