What an amazing friend Debra Tieleman is.
She has stood by and fought for a Canadian woman imprisoned in Mexico, finally drawing national attention to the desperate plight of Brenda Martin.
13 Canadians are in Mexican jails, 1 million Canadians visit Mexico every year. According to Foreign Affairs, thousands of Canadians are in foreign jails, most in the US, the rest in 100 other countries.
Martin has been in jail 26 months, it took 18 months for the consulate to get involved.

Canadians wishing to undertake such proceedings can expect to face long delays and additional efforts in order to resolve their case. The Government of Canada cannot intervene in ongoing legal proceedings in other countries, unless requested to do so by local authorities. Such requests are rare.
Under Mexican law, you are considered guilty until proven innocent.

If your friend was in prison, literally losing their mind along with 2/3′rds of their body weight, if the Canadian government was lying to media about what they have and haven’t done, you’d do what you have to do to save your friend’s life.

These Mexicans are insane, there is so much corruption in Mexico!!…..There are nice normal people there buuuuuuut the majority take the tourists for a ride….I thought Mexico was beautiful the first time I went there, but, have since found out different…I will never ever go to Mexico again….I HOPE ALL CANADIANS TAKE HEED.. The only reason they found Brenda Martin guilty was to get the fine money….of course…there only interest…..They thrive from tourism…

Maybe I can try to help to your friend Brenda Martín. Sorry for my english, it´s very bad for now, but, I know perfectly well the mexican law.
Just I need a copy from the whole process of Brenda Martin, and, believe, in many cases you don´t need give your money for the judges, the most important part is: you only need know very well The Mexican Constitucion (the principal law in the country) and how you can to apply in specifics cases. I can´t come back to México, I can read Brenda Martin´s process and give to you my opinion and make the letters to the court against the sentence.
For sure: I don´t need your money, i´m interesting in the case.
