A sitting PM is suing members of the Official Opposition. The court papers were filed in Ontario Superior Court this afternoon. Kady O’Malley at Macleans:
The Prime Minister has finally launched his lawsuit against Dion, Ignatieff and various other Liberals for exactly the same amount that Brian Mulroney sued the government way back before he admitted taking cash-stuffed envelopes from Karlheinz Schreiber. Oh, and he’s also claiming the tape - The Tape - was “edited and incompete,” which makes me wonder why he isn’t suing the author, too. Or does he think Paul Martin snuck into Zytaruk’s office and snipped away a critical “not”? It’s all very fascinating, and I can’t wait to read the entire statement of claim. I bet it’s a corker.
Harper wants 2.5 million dollars. According to CTV:
“The three MPs have been dropped from the libel suit. This is only a libel suit against the Liberal party based solely on what was on the Liberal party website and a lot of lawyers feel what was on that website was libelous,” Fife told CTV Newsnet. Also named in the suit are the unknown authors of the report on the Liberal website.
The PMO Press office says Harper is merely doing what any other Canadian of integrity would do to defend himself and his family.
Oh.

Kady O’Malley. K.A.D.Y. It’s Irish.
My question is why haven’t the Cadmans begun a libel suit against HarpoCons?
He’s only fueling the flame - this whole thing might have gone away if he hadn’t of decided to lawyer-up and sue the official opposition for questioning the integrity of the government! Shit man, isn’t that what the official opposition is supposed to do in the parliamentary system?
Thanks James. Fixed.
As people get home from work and the chatter picks up, the number one question is, “Who is paying for this?
Harper’s toast.
