The OHRC has decided not to proceed with complaints against Mark Steyn and Macleans magazine.
I’ve been sick, as have other bloggers, which is why posts have been sparse. Richard Hall of connexion is feeling ‘right poorly.‘ Head over and give him your well wishes.
Real Live Preacher lost his health insurance when is wife retired. I don’t think we Canadians can comprehend the hassles and extreme stress this puts on his family. Part of on going and the fruitless begging with US insurance companies is here, please weigh in if you can help him find ways to obtain prescription drugs.
Larry has a wonderful post on listening - the power of attending
Darryl Dash has also had an unexpected rough time this week. Darryl and Charlene could use your encouragement.
Today at the Mission - what he said. American Idolatry (American Idol)
Several Canadian bloggers are facing civil libel suits filed against them by Richard Warman - Ezra Levant, Small Dead Animals, Five Feet of Fury and forum Free Dominion, as well as Jonathan Kay of The National Post. These are not Human Rights Tribunals.
Our civil libel suits in Canada are draconian. Bouquets of Gray has an outstanding the technical aspects of the link in question, conclusions that snowballed. This is not the first time bloggers have faced civil suits. Big City Lib has more, follow the tags under his post. Here is more background. The filing can be read by clicking on BigCityLibs April 9th post. (.pdf)
Big scandal in charismatic circles in the UK this week when 64 year old Michael Reid, a major scold and homophobic in the UK who ran his church and school for 32 years resigned after admitting an 8 year affair with the church choir director. (His wife caught him with his mistriss in thier home) He ran a TV ministry and was affiliated with Oral Roberts in the US. As well he ran another outfit in Arizona. Richard Bartholomew has more and more.
Reid was well known for virulent attacks on critics. Former church members speak out.
Reid was a police officer who went into insurance before starting Peniel. in 1995. His ‘bishop-ship’ is from International Communion of Charismatic Churches in Nigeria.

Sorry to hear you’ve been sick.
Thanks for your link. We’re doing better now. I don’t think we were the only ones to walk away from that meeting feeling discouraged. I think I was on the flip side of the treatment that some Christians have been dishing out for a while, and it doesn’t feel good. Somehow we’ve got to figure out a way to really hear what others are saying who don’t agree with us so that real listening and understanding takes place. The alternative isn’t pretty.
It isn’t pretty.
Christians demanding their rights with each other never is, and there are a lot of walking wounded.
All the active listening in the world isn’t going to change certain temperments, beliefs and demands. It’s easier for most of us just to walk away. My grandmother used to say there wasn’t much point in beating a dead horse. It’s so difficult to figure out timing, boundaries, and how to stay spiritually and emotionally healthy.
I commend you for your willingness to hang in and seek compromise and conciliation, glad you are taking care of yourself.
This wasn’t a group of Christians. It was a secular group that was trying to navigate a tough issue that touched on discrimination in a few areas. It’s hard to balance rights sometimes, never mind to really hear those with whom we disagree.
Certainly a big challenge!
Ah okay, you are a very careful, conciliatory writer and I made assumptions and filled in blanks where I shouldn’t have.
Not your fault; I think I may have left that impression that two of my posts (The Lord’s Prayer and this one) were related.
