Stuart:

There are different laws for different countries and regulatory boards.

I've only seen GodTV clips online, if they broadcast in your country I guess you can familarize yourself with the regulations (Ofam, FCC etc)and if they cross the line you can file a complaint.
It would probably be helpful to have a few people monitoring and researching.

We had a watchdog group in Canada following the Miracle Channel closely. They did an outstanding job with their website warning others, communicating concerns to the MC, knew CRTC regs and filed complaints.

They've pretty much burned out because the MC complies with reg complaints but it hasn't been that helpful in cleaning up the heresy.

Also where GodTV is a registered charity you can get their filing - read up on the rules for your country charitable standing and if you see a violation you can file a complaint.

I can't find financial info on them to be honest, needs someone tenacious with charity/financial smarts - seems reasonable that would be the most appropriate complaints to file in all the countries GodTV has been given exemption in.

<strong>Don't get me started on the trees! What a scam.</strong>

a) Has this supposed tree planting been approved by the Israeli government?

b) In the fine print you'll see GodTV is supposedly donating the tree money people send GodTV to the Jewish National Fund’s plant a tree campaign.
c) Does the Fund know? Did they accept or reject GodTV?

d) The Jewish National Fund tree project sells the same thing for 18 dollars.

e) So where does that 7 extra dollars GodTV collects go?

f) Trees can be bought in bulk (about a dollar apeice) by the JNF.
http://tinyurl.com/27y4ld
If that's the case where does GodTV's extra money go from your 25 dollars?

are there any laws to stop these sorts of programs, god tv and the like?
most of the stuff on these programs is complete rubbish ! God talking to presenders, people being healed, etc,, they have turned god into a big circus.

Wendy, is it god tv,? saw her the other day with her hands in the air mumbling that god had told her who would win the american election, WHAT ! run that by me again,, i always get the feeling when watching this program that a clown with a big red nose and big floppy feet will appera behind them,,

and they are planting trees in isreal, do you really think god asked them to plants trees , when there is so much other things they could do to help the people of this world ? asking people to send money, and if they did god would reward them with spiritual gifts ?

sacrifice, and feast of tabernacles, and double portions, ? i think they need to read there bibles again !

I love watching God TV on my Sky Angel IPTV. I am a huge fan of all of their shows and it's def. in my top 5 channels!

If anyone else is interested in watching God TV at any time during the day. Check out the new Sky Angel IPTV. They added this really cool DVR feature. So I can record the God TV programs during the day and come home at the end of the night and watch them with my family.

Check it out!

I'd like to see someone chase down some of the numbers on God TV.

It's difficult to pin them down.
I checked a US broadcasting site, they are registered but there is little solid info.

Didn't the Charity Commission for England and Wales do an investigation? (The Goshen Trust Registered Charity No. 274910)
(The Angel Foundation Registered Charity No. 1079501) January 2004. The Alecs started in the UK in 2005 as Christian Channel Europe.

It would be interesting to follow their trail with the Independent Television Commission., and the UK Christian Broadcasting Channel for starters.

The God TV wiki entry doesn't say much of anything, other than the supposed philanthropic stuff which is dubious. The wiki page on the Alecs is under dispute. Quelle surprise.

Didn't God TV start out as the Dream Family Network and name changed in 2000?

Todd Bentley who is their TV current star, says their internet streaming brought in over 500 thousand unique IP's in the first two weeks. What's a 100 thousand here or there?:^)

He was interviewed for Tampa Bay Online a few days ago - it's 17 minutes where he sat quietly answering a reporters questions. Lot of unsubstantiated claims, an attempt to appear more mainstream pentecostal/charismatic.

http://www.tbo.com/video/xml/MGBUNESXPFF.html

Bentley is the prophet (missionary) sent out from Global Harvest Centre Church in Abbotsford, the same church attended by Ron Grey who is the national head of The Canadian Christian Heritage Party.
Ken Greter (current?) Bentley manager is affiliated with the Canadian branch of Peter Wagners Apostolic Movement here in Canada.
Patricia King (Coking) comes out of New Life Fellowship in Kelowna. The church was kicked out of the Vineyard churches, they prefer to say they left.
God TV has been their ticket outta there.

They are BBF with The Toronto Blessing folk and IHOP and other hyper-charismatic/dominionist/restorationist movements.

Keith Allen was commissioned to do a God TV program on Channel 4 last year, I can't find that it aired. (DigitalSpy)
Religion and Ethics did a 2005 piece on God TV and China.

I've found blog entries saying their March fundraiser fell really short, but I can't verify.

Thanks for posting this, BD. The rise of GodTV has been fascinating. I haven't been able to find out whether they made their target in 'Missions Week': while they were showing the running total it didn't look like they were getting anywhere near, but I've no idea what the final outcome was.
