Bill C-61

I wouldn’t know how to break a digital lock if I tripped over it. And I’m not about to get a cell-phone or TiVo anytime soon. I’m going to side track here for a sec.
In the US TiVo partnered with Focus on the Family for a superdad write in for Fathers Day. Thing is, it was only Fotf’s idea of a dad. Tivo took a lot of grief (good!) took down their promotional page, but I think hell will probably freeze over before I give them a second thought after seeing this. If they want to partner up with Fotf and politicize their company, that’s fine. I don’t have to buy their service.
Box Turtle Bulletin took a positive approach and is posting some amazing father stories. And people are writing them for free. Imagine.

However, not the point of this post – I have been reading Dr. Michael Geist as he has been following Bill C-61.
I don’t have to understand technology to understand what this bill will do to me (not for me) as a consumer. Boing boing has details and an excellent comment from an former Ottawa staffer who tells us how to be sure we are heard.

Bill C-61 does nothing more than open Canada to the tyranny of corporate greed, where copyright lawsuits are worth more than the product the “entertainment” companies are supposed to actually make.
