For well over a year I’ve been waiting for Bill Kinnon at achievable ends to tell us bloggers what he knows about Charles McVety’s fake degrees and why the media doesn’t need to waste time calling Charles McVety doctor. While we wait on Bill yaya has been following the crumbs.
Been there, done that, passed the research on to Kinnon ages ago, ’cause he is a better writer, can run with a good piece of information, and I think it’s important people see evangelicals are not McVety clones.
Bill hasn’t gotten around to posting yet, yaya did some digging last month. See, Bill Kinnon did a bit more than just try that phone number, but it’s his tale to tell. If bloggers continue to speak up, maybe traditional media will stop calling Charles a doctor.
Update: Bill Kinnon has written his piece, Dr? Charles McVety and it’s chock full of information. Here’s some.
I should add that I called the CSCU number on this link last fall. The number is located in the Koreatown area of Los Angeles. Each time I called the phone was answered by someone who may have been Korean and who spoke only limited English. She assured me this was CSCU but told me to call back. When I did call back I got the same person with the same request. (It didn’t matter what time of day I called.) I haven’t bothered to try the cell phone number.
Let me just say this to the Canadian media who offer a platform to Dr? Charles McVety. If I, a simple blogger, can find these details in a matter of minutes, then why can’t you do the journalistic research you are paid to do to expose this publicity hound who purports to represent Canadian Christians. Is it perhaps that you hold Christians in such disdain that you take any opportunity to make it look like Dr? Chuck represents us all. Let me provide you with a piece of information you’ve chosen to ignore – he doesn’t.
And, Dr. Charles McVety, if I’m wrong and you actually have an earned Doctorate from an accredited Christian University/Seminary or even Semi-Mary, then I apologize. All I’d ask is you produce your Doctoral dissertation and the ATS accreditation for the University where you got your D.Min. That should only take you a matter of moments, right. I’m sure your dissertation is bound and on a shelf in your office. (And Charles, please note that CSCU isn’t on this list – perhaps its an oversite and you’ll want Dr. Kim to get that cleared up.While you are at it, since your Master’s is from the school your Dad started and where you are now President, perhaps you could share your Master’s Thesis with us – and introduce as to your faculty advisers. Committed Christian that you are, I’m sure you’d want to clear up any possible misconceptions.
One of his readers suggested a look at St. Petersburg State University (Russia) not a satellite of Florida State University. A degree is either earned or fake, and Kinnon is correct, the earned credentials count, no one begrudges them, what people are not impressed with is misrepresentation from a public figure. In this Baptist Press article a discussion about proper accreditation of religious schools takes place. There is a glimpse into why an independent may not want people getting accredited degrees:
“Liberals approach education as being a matter of just exploring — there is no right, there is no wrong, let’s just look at all sides of things and try to create a tolerant open-minded person,” Owens explained. “A conservative says no. We want to teach everything that’s out there. But we are going to advocate what we believe to be true.”
Within the educational world, there is some pressure to put the federal government in charge of all accreditation in higher education, Owens said. If that happens, liberal influence in accrediting agencies likely will increase, he said.
I doubt that is the case with Charles McVety or new SBC President Johnny Hunt, they are adults. Last I recall Kinnon purchased at least one of the domain names of one the schools.
(Yep. He did: californiastatechristianuniversity.com, .net and .org)
McVety list his ‘doctorates’ from under his name in the wikipedia, and his Canada Christian College. That’s one less way those of us who value accredited, earned credentials can be passed off as legit.
I am getting seriously fed up with this ‘lying for Jesus’ mentality. There is a new president of a major convention in the US running around with fake doctorates, a real Canadian fundamentalist with fake doctorates heading in the back door of the Hill, holding special screenings of what he thinks a movie is and then rushing off to hold an anti-racist rally…I really do not blame people for thinking evangelicals are not worth a hello.
It is one thing for the church to be a hospital for sinners, it is quite another to be a petri dish for putrid, self-aggrandizing lies.
toujourdan does his research.
Kady O’Malley noticed Charles decided to show Ottawa his idea of a good movie; Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. How is it being marketed to a Canadian audience?
Must have been fun, with MP Maurice Vellacott having the honour of sending out the invites and all.
Then of course – there was the bonus McVety Anti-Racism Rally at The Royal Ontario Museum. How’d that go?

Shamed. Post now written. Going up in mere seconds.
And, just to show how out of touch I am with the space time continuum, I thought my last McVety post was from last fall, not February 7th of ‘07.
Bless your busy little heart Kinnon.
This shall be passed on forthwith.
Nice job and blog on!
