Dennis Gueudling has very sensible post up, chock full of facts about The National House of Prayer.
The NHOP exists within a charismatic and Pentecostal movement known for its emotional and enthusiastic forms of worship. NHOP also leans toward Christian reconstructionism – a belief that government and all of society must submit to the Bible’s moral principles. It may be this strong Biblical focus that explains an NHOP blog posting following a demonstration at the Chinese embassy this spring calling for a free Tibet. “Some of our prayers go in that direction,” the NHOP blog said. “However, on another level, our deeper cry in prayer is ‘Free Tibet!’ Free it from the centuries of spiritual darkness and oppression that the Tibetan Buddhist priests exerted over the people. Free them from the power of blinded obedience to the Dalai Lama.” This statement is particularly odd because the government named the Dalai Lama as honourary Canadian citizen in 2007, one of only four people ever to receive that distinction.
The NHOP is just one of a number of conservative Christian groups to locate in Ottawa within the past few years, a development that indicates the growing influence in Canada of the religious right.
He make the obvious tie-ins to the movement of neo-pentecostals moving into the Canadian political scene, similar to what has occurred in the US. I looked very briefly at some of the prayer house theology awhile back.
The NHOP has ties to Watchman for the Nations and the youth tie in at 4MYCanada. (the website isn’t as flash heavy as the last time I visited it, so it’s an easier click over) While the Ottawa Citizen has covered Watchman for the Nations so has Canadian Christianity The religious magazine also covered the opening of the National House of Prayer and noted the financial donations from The Miracle Network founder. (Dewart resigned from leadership just over a year ago because of an extra-marital affair) The NHOP is a member of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada.
While not all pentecostal groups are restorationist or dominionist in their political ideology, the NHOP makes no bones about being so.
The National House of Prayer has three charity designations with the Ottawa property just edging out it’s other activities.
Rank Description
1 Missionary organizations, evangelism 40%
2 Places of worship,
congregations, parishes, dioceses, etc. 30%
3 Summer camps 30%
The National House of Prayer 2006 Revenue Canada return indicates it operates on more of a shoe string budget (with the property being it’s key asset) than most Ottawa groups.

I went over to BigCityLib to track the evolution of the story about the Green Shift Inc. company and the Green Shift plan of the Liberal Party and got sidetracked.:^)
The noise over the Liberal plan name matching a company started in from a Blogging Tory (Crux of the Matter) and pushed their discontent into the national media spotlight. Green Shift Inc the company found itself facing unexpected attention. When the story hit a popular news aggregator, mainstream media picked it up. Stories can break more quickly online than on a 24/7 newschannel, and grab traction as fast as people can key in their information and opinions. The difference in the two website domain names is the three letter word - ‘the’. MP Garth Turner gives the Liberal party side in the site that barked. Inside the Queensway has the time-line. I’m with JimBobby on this one, as unpleasant as the partisan attention has been for this company, it’s not going to hurt anyone who can do business with them to do so.
Todd Stelmach, a Canadian who objected to the LockHeed Martin contract with Stats Canada will be back in court to enter a plea July 4th. He is one of thousands of Canadians who object to Stats Canada contract with the US defense company, one of 63 charged.
This is really something - Stageleft put together 12 pieces of hyperbole written about the Steyn/Macleans/BC Human Rights Tribunal. It’s a poll, you get to vote - Hyperbole of the Zillenium!!!!!!
