He got a good education, and has been the minister of a Fellowship Baptist Church in Edson Alberta.

He served his congregation since 1997, the church website isn’t fancy. Church life is steady in the small town and the web-pages haven’t been updated in quite awhile.

He home-schooled his kids, four of them.
Until Saturday, when he and his wife lost their 14 year old daughter Emily to an unknown killer.

Rev. Terry Stauffer posts starkly and in shock on his blog about the murder of his daughter.
Emily went out for a walk Saturday afternoon, she liked nature and photography.
She didn’t come home.

Students at Yellowhead Koinonia Christian School honoured her today (she was in grade 9 being home-schooled) and a community vigil was held outside the Baptist church tonight. About 100 people attended.

Edson is a town of about 8000, with 10 churches.
The RCMP are concerned town residents will engage in vigilante justice; the description they have is of a white man about 30, wearing a blue coat and blue jeans who took off on an all terrain vehicle.

Terry Stauffer had a good life, a good church, a good wife in Juanita and four good kids.
Now there are 3, Emily’s two sister and brother, and a terribly empty chair.
People across Canada are expressing their condolences on the ministers blog and on Facebook while an unusually large contingent of RCMP work none stop to try to find Emily’s killer.

May 8, 1994- September 27, 2008

Last night at about 4:45 our precious 14 year-old daughter Emily was attacked and killed as she was out for a walk. We don’t know a lot of details, but we know that two young men came upon the scene right away, but it was too late for Emily.

I will write more as more details come available. Please pray for us…

There are about 500 Fellowship Baptist Churches in Canada, the denomination was founded in 1953 and has about 65 thousand members.

One Response to “Emily Stauffer - It is not death to die”

This is a terrible thing to happen and I am so sorry for the family. It amazes me that people believe they have the right to take another persons life. My prayers are with the family that they may have strength and that God will deliver justice. I hope this person is caught and rots in jail for the rest of their natural life, and then spends eternity in hell in their spiritual life. Not very forgiving, nor will I be, God understands my anger. Think about that. Having suffered a loss in our family as well within the last month and a bit, I understand the intense crushing pain of grief that overwhelms you. God says Vengeance is His and it is quite the test of our faith to refrain from exacting our own justice. This person deserves to die. How dare they. I am sick with the evil upon us. How animalistic, preying on one who is young, more vulnerable and obviously not as strong. What right should one have to lay a hand on another with the intent of taking that persons life. They (people who do such awful things) may run but I must say you can’t hide from the eyes of God. Hold on to the knowledge that Emily is in God’s hands. Such knowledge offers little comfort, however, in grief. It is so hard because of how much we love the person and we are all still here. (God does say…..whoa be it to he that hurts My little lambs) I am sorry for venting but this just hurts me deeply and I am so tired of the rights for criminals and those who prey on the more vulnerable. To the family, keep strong, keep together, talk about it, grieve, watch for signs, listen to your spirit and don’t ever lose faith as angry as you may get. Trust that time will help to heal. God understands our anger, our grief, us intimately. Once again, I am so sorry and my prayers are with you. You have a long road ahead of you and may God and his heavenly hosts surround you, especially in this intense time of grief.
