Stephane Dion is holding his media conference at the Ottawa Press Gallery. He is stepping down as leader, but not until a new leader is chosen. The Liberals are holding their conference in May.

Kady O’Malley is liveblogging his speech. Only four questions are being allowed - 2 in English, 2 in French.
(Sounds a bit Harperish).  I’m watching on CBC - he is angry at the constant hum of the Conservative’s successful effort to frame him as ‘not a leader.’ What Dion may not understand that Canadians of all stripes weren’t impressed with that effort either.   I don’t think he was a victim of Conservative advertising (the negative advertising was effectively imported from Australia and the US)  He acknowledges the Liberal infighting and funding is in disarray. He acknowledges he failed as leader, and wants to see the new leader of the party won’t be ‘vulnerable’.  They have to get their own house in order.
Kady O’Malley:

The party must “move fast”, he says, but look beyond leadership: “We must be willing to face up to uncomfortable realities — inconvenient truths.” With caucus coming up later this week, that may happen a lot sooner than he thinks. The party needs to “reverse the trend” of losing seats - and government - and — start winning both again, presumably.

Eulogy for the Green Shift - a “good policy” that the Conservatives, through a massive advertising campaign - much of which aired before the election - transformed into a tax hike. He wants to make sure that the Tories aren’t able to do this to any other leader, which is why the party needs to bring its fundraising machinery “into the 21st century.”

His handlers are eager to get him out of there.  The internal knives need to be sheaved, sheathed it hasn’t been The Conservative Party which has shown the infighting and disarray of The Liberal Party.
