Backlash surprises Mormons

It’s fascinating watching the leadership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints try to play victim over their participation the California Proposition 8 campaign.

They are pulling out all the stops after tag teaming with the Roman Catholic Church, and groups like Focus on the Family.  pogrom?  I’m sure a Jewish group which has tried for 14 years to get the Mormon Church to stop proxy baptism of holocaust survivors wouldn’t be too impressed with a pogrom analogy.

The anger on the no side isn’t easing either, although the only arrest I’ve read of was a self-described San Diego minuteman who decided to protest a march with his fists.

Mormons make up about 2% of the population of California. As thousands of Americans took to the streets this weekend, the leadership is appalled that lists of people and groups who donated to the political cause is a matter of public record.

They are appalled sites such as this are being supported.

901 Mormons have very publicly stood up against the political involvement of the LDS and I suppose they won’t be members much longer. It occurred to me that the donation lists will be gone over with a fine tooth comb, not so much by the No side, but by LDS leadership who will want to see who obeyed them.

GLBT and supporters are literally seen by LDS as the spawn of Satan.

  1. Heck, I should put a sign on my door saying that I both an ex-communicated Mormon and Jehovah Witness. Maybe they’ll skip my door and go bug the neighbours.

What did they think would happen?

Buy loyalty, lie, document their activity meticiously, play in a political puddle and the response is shock?
