What a sorry read this is. The latest missive from Fresh Fire Canada about Todd Bentley.

The Canadian board admits the neo-charismatic media* star has dumped them. He finally gave his resignation in writing and they are not clear if he has been drawing a salary.
While the word adultery is finally used, other sin is glaringly overlooked. Bentley fell because his Lakeland lies were made public, not because he burned out or behaved inappropriately privately
  • Acknowledgement of the public reason Bentley ‘fell’ is not forthcoming
  • The board attempts to focus on work in Africa (claims can’t be easily verified)
  • This is a business, licencing fees etc. had to have been or are being legally sorted out
  • The only apology is for silence
  • There is acknowledgement ‘partnership’ has dropped (out of sight out of mind)
  • It’s gossipy, Bentley fans will get their fill, but I think that’s the point

This board has known Bentley for years. They know his temperament, his behavior and they turned a blind eye while they made their money and alliances. That there is cultish overtones in the blaming won’t be lost on many readers.

  • Critics are lumped into one pile and blamed as they have been from day one
  • Fatigue is blamed
  • Lack of communication is blamed
  • Distance is blamed
  • Media is blamed

The fact that the revival was in Florida, three thousand miles from our home office in Abbotsford, BC Canada, meant that the entire administration for the revival was provided by a rotating stream of church leaders and Board members who would assist behind the scenes and on the platform for a few weeks at a time and then return to Canada, usually on the verge of total exhaustion. Trying to keep up with the logistics of administrating the revival, including the massive challenge of moving from venue to venue until we finally arrived in the tent along with the media circus that ensued shortly afterwards, meant that communication was greatly inhibited between the leaders involved.

I have to wonder about the rotating board and church leaders.
What church? Abbotsford? Strader’s congregation in Florida?
Once  ‘leadership’ saw unscriptural behavior and lying did they rotate themselves out of Lakeland?
And the blame continues.

  • Scripture is misused
  • Busy leadership is blamed
  • If people stop judging and start forgiving he would get another chance, so it’s your fault
  • If people stop demonizing Todd Bentley then the world will be saved
  • If he’d just be accountable to us (his former board), we could change the world (NAR/dominionist thinking)
  • The devil is blamed
  • God is blamed

*The various alliances around Bentley  (Ignited, Fresh Fire, God TV etc) are hard to pin down financially.
While I’ve covered Fresh Fire Revenue Canada filings, I haven’t looked at their US status.
God TV is registered in the UK and US that I’m aware of and they made a business decision to cover Lakeland 24/7.
God TV founder Rory Alec said in 2007 the annual budget was 20 million pounds a year and he was clear about his company infrastructure (satellites, transmitters) expansion goals. Source: Business Day South Africa May 2007
How much did Lakeland bring in for the organizations involved and where did it go?
Fresh Fire Ministries Canada isn’t telling.

To answer some of your financial questions on the Shotgun post:

It is my understanding that Bentley has two branches of Fresh Fire Ministries, one reporting to Revenue Canada and one to the IRS. he has a drop box for his US mail in Sumas Wash., which is directly across the border from his HQ in Abbotsford B.C..

Revenue Canada filings for (the Candian) Fresh Fire Ministries are avaiable online from 1999 to I think 2006 or perhaps 2007. It looks like all the North American money is lumped together, but I am not sure of that.

What is interesting there is that Todd Bentley is listed as President of Fresh Fire Ministries. Presumably, he is the 1 person who, according to the Revenue Canada filings, earns the largest category of salary.

You’ll note that the Fresh Fire release goes on about how Mr. Bentley has left the Board of Directors. What would be interesting to know is has he been fired as President (his job) or suspended without pay. Mr. Bentley may be difficult to fire as several of the board members are employees of his or connected to his home church in Abbotsford where he would, presumably, tithe.

I’ve looked at the Rev Can filings, have at least the latest one (2006) posted about somewhere here at BDBO in back posts.

I also have the Florida property purchase info buried in a prior post.

I haven’t seen the IRS statements, haven’t followed through.

Fresh Fire board members are on the Global Harvest Church site- Greter, Bullet, Olynick.

You raise a good point in your last paragraph.
The Abbotsford church and FF staff are entangled.

Luke and Suzanne Jones (the African FF staff mentioned in the board message) are part of the Abbotsford Global Harvest Church.
http://www.globalharvest.ca/uganda/ Are they getting double funding?

God TV moved it’s office from Tulsa to Washington to Orlando about an hour away from the Lakeland area. I’ve not seen their IRS or UK charity filings.

I don’t know if the money is lumped together either.
