Geoff, it's hard to be a walkaway, I hope you find healing and growth in your new church. Disagreeing with leadership doesn't make you a bad Christian implied or otherwise, it tells me you've walked away from an abusive situation.

Ron Enroth has given The Apologetics Index to publish his excellent book: Churches that Abuse online, for free. If you haven't had an opportunity to read it, here it is:

My wife and I were attending Global Harvest church in Abbotsford, BC when the decision to change the name from “Fresh Fire Ministries” to “Transform International” was announced. Church members were not given an opportunity to discuss the name change, it was simply announced and that was the end of it. We were informed that the leadership had prayed about the name change and felt they had the approval of the Holy Spirit on the matter.

I found this to be disturbing because it carried with it the suggestion that if someone should happen to disagree with the leadership, that person would automatically be in conflict with the Holy Spirit, and therefore a bad Christian. What kind of Christians would we be if we used this approach in dealing with our spouses or our children? We would come across as being insensitive and dictatorial, which is exactly how I would describe the actions of the leadership.

I found the name change to be unacceptable because it was done to serve the purposes of the leadership, not the membership. It was clear to me that the leadership was placing it's own interests (which were obviously to preserve the international ministry, and, by extension, their own livelihoods) ahead of the interests of the membership.

For me, the atmosphere at Global/Transform became less of a community or family feeling and more of a corporate feeling in which everyone is expected to perform as directed by management, no questions asked. Needless to say, we left the church shortly after the name change.

<i>"Todd Bentley’s parents began to put out feelers into the neo-charismatic community to see how former followers were handling his downfall. Dave Bentley (Todd’s biological father) released information to a web site NAR considers antagonistic." </i>

For clarification, it was I that contact Dave Bentley, confronting him with information/evidence I had already obtained and it was not vice versa.

I found the traffic for EL and Charisma interesting also.

I wonder if at the heart of the Elijah List we can call users Charismatic, I have to use neo-charismatic because of the execesses, the new age influences, the man made ones.

Believing in the gifts of the spirit don't match up with angels, gold dust, Joel's Army, dominionism, in fact the opposite is true.

What saddens me is how cheap peoples lives are, how easily they are used and trampled.
No repentence, only plans, no Jesus, only me, me and us, requests for money, not brokeness, faithfulness and holiness.

Interesting rundown, and sad. That's one of the reasons this self-described Bapticostal tends to err on the Baptist side of the street these days.

It is interesting that you noted that Elijah List and Charisma weren't down much, mainly because they weren't as tied to Bentley.

EL is tied to people like Rick Joyner, but majors in prophetics; it will (unfortunately) go on.

Charisma covers the charismatic/Pentecostal scene writ large; they were slow to be critical, for they have a tendency to be a cheerleader rather than a critic. However, J Lee Grady was asking some questions fairly early on, showing a decent degree of skepticism; yes, slower than many, but coming from that side of the aisle, he wanted to not throw the charismatic baby out with Bentley's poopy bathwater.
