Oral Roberts University cleaning up debt and image

Oral Roberts University is slowing paring down it’s considerable debt  as a couple of millionaires step in and attempt to rebuild after over a year of scandals. Hobby chain businessman and billionair Mart Green stepped into clean up the financial mess of ORU last year, giving 70 million on condition of a seat on the trustee board, after the founder’s son, Richard Roberts stepped down in November 2007.
There were law suits against ORU, some were settled out of court, no word on if all have been resolved.

Now the prosperity gospel university in Tulsa has found a president. Mark Rutland, formerly with Florida Southeastern University will take over the presidency in July. As well  trustee Michael Hammer of the Armand Hammer Foundation announced his gift of a million dollars to ORU’s scholarship fund this month, which plans matched donations from Green. who has already given 70 million to bail out ORU. The scholarship fund  names Whole Person hopes to have 4 million built up over four years to re-attract potential students.

According to the incoming President, ORU had reduced it’s debt from 55 million to 2.5 million.

That’s one heck of a bailout… Can women wear pants there yet? If not, maybe Mr. Green could use some of his influence and straighten out their medieval dress code policy.

    They are working on it…

In early 2003 the student dress code was relaxed for the first time in forty years and described as business casual. For most of the school’s history men were required to wear button-down shirts and ties while women were required to wear skirts (an exception for winter months was added in 2000).

In 2006 campus-wide dress code rules were eased even further, allowing students to wear jeans to class and dress even more casually in non-academic settings.

Beginning in 2009 men are allowed to have neatly trimmed facial hair. There are some restrictions on men concerning hair length; however, they are only loosely enforced.
