FBC Jax Watchblog gaining media attention

I’ve written this story would go national. The blogger is suing not the church but the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Department and the state Attorney’s office for 15 thousand dollars, the minimum amount that can be claimed.

Two other bloggers were investigated, one who used her original name and one who is not even in the state.

As this story spreads I’m seeing two responses.
People who have read FBC Jax Watchblog and those who haven’t but decide to express their opinion anyway.  The overwhelming suport is for the blogger. 
The latest media coverage is here. The lawsuit claims law enforcement violated his constitutional rights to anonymity and free speech in a 2008 criminal case “fabricated” solely to uncover his identity for First Baptist Church.

The lawsuit also claims the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and State Attorney’s Office violated the First Amendment’s establishment clause by disclosing the blogger’s name to the downtown mega-church. Doing so amounted to taking sides in a religious dispute between the blogger, Thomas Rich, and the church

After the senior pastor called Tom Rich (watchblogger)  some terrible things in media,( ie:  ”the writer has an “obsessive compulsive problem” and is “not very stable at all…What you’re dealing with is a sociopath”)
the church released a statement the end of April when the suit was filed against law enforcement:

“First Baptist Church of Jacksonville appreciates the difficult responsibilities of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office as they diligently keep the people of public and private institutions in Jacksonville safe from serious and potential harm. Officer Robert Hinson, who serves on our security detail that is responsible for the safety of 8,000 people each week, is a man of great character, integrity and ability. We continue, as always, to strongly support each of them.”
